i think you just described the problem: you dont know when you will die. a lot of people falls into the tight lifestyle because they dont know when they will need that money. their children/partner might need the money as well.

and when we describe someone as wealthy, as someone already pointed out, how do we define wealthy? a lot of so-call properties millionaires on the surface seems like they own a lot, but there are a lot of debts involve and their wealth isnt exactly liquid i.e. living rather modest until the point they cash out.

another point worth considering is the the level of wealthiness. a 30k man lifestyle is unthinkable in remote area of china. similarly someone who has 1-2 mil in the uk walks into monaco, he would be pretty "poor" as well. it's all relative...
 
Very true.....I guess someone like Zuckerberg is heavily asset rich, but doesn't actually have that money until he cashes out.

Im sure he is paid VERY well mind you.

all of us - we're mostly all in 1st world countries with access to shelter, mains water, electricity, healthcare, education, internet access and posting on a computer forum dedicated to high end computer hardware enthusiasts....

as far as humans go we're all rather wealthy - including the benefit claimants living in 'relative' poverty....
 
Define rich? (Sorry old thread but only a few months out).

I am not mega rich or even rich...yet but I think I will be atleast a millionaire in 10 years time (and will only be 38 then).

One thing I am finding though is the more money I make the less I spend on things, don't get me wrong I still believe that for example when buying a pair of shoes you need to spend £££ to get quality that will last, but I research every purchase first and then debate with myself before buying them, and I don't do what I used to do which is buy flashy things, for example Gucci loafers cost £300 and John Lobb loafers cost £300 too, Gucci is "the name" that everyone recognises but IMO they don't wear as well as John Lobb's do, so the latter is the better purchase.

Then you see a lot of people wearing Gucci loafers but they buy them on credit for the "name" and can't afford to put fuel in their car at the end of the month.. consumerism at it's worst.

You necro a thread to post about buying 300 quid loafers, and then speculate that others buy 300 quid loafers on credit?! And Gucci..terrible. It's a fashion brand aimed at the masses. True class pays for bespoke shoes made by a high quality shoemaker. Anything made in a factory is mass produced crap.

i know of a few people who would have a couple of million in their bank account, not many show off their wealth tbh.

There is one old guy who lets say 6 years ago had a net worth of about £50 million, he drives a fiat punto, takes a ryanair flight back to his home country to collect 800 euro a month in pension then fly's straight back home.

There is a story a sheep was drowning in a river and he almost killed himself trying to save that sheep in the process. His holiday home is quite small compared to others and u would never think in a million years he was a multi millionaire.

That's a pretty strange assumption considering quite a few on here own their own businesses, have had or do have good jobs, are in the more advanced year category etc.

I think most people start on here because they need a better PC than a shop bought one and want to know and ask about the best way about going about it. That's how I came across this site and it stuck. That I would think is a matter of interest and pretty agnostic towards income.
