Dark Souls II Gameplay Tips and Spoiler Thread

I don't know of it is random, but I just got summoned for Smelter Demon, and when we won I was human again.

Also used an ascetic, and beat the Ruin Sentinels again!... Ascetics are quite handy, as all items respond as well, even those in hosts, so I did it by the blacksmith in Lost Bastille and got a load more titanate.

Just killed that poison Queen thing, I forget the name. Someone tipped me off about the trick. What a ridiculous way to do it!
It's actually pointed out to you in game (pretty much) if you talk to the ladder guy if you meet him. He's pretty clear about the poison so I guess you're meant to know what he's on about and figure out the trick. I have to admit, my wife figured it out before I did!

I'm in Drangleic castle now. Never been more frustrated than after doing the room with the stone Giants!

Also felt a bit silly as the first time I did the Dragon riders boss I summoned before going in, as I am trying to get as many sunlight medals as I can, and it turned out to be one of the easiest bosses in it,

If you do it solo it can be a pain in the arse, especially with a slower weapon as the halberd one will quickly be on to you as you try to take out the much weaker archer. With two people though the fight is trivial.

I actually found the fight fairly easy tbh, and good fun, if a bit long doing it solo. It's just that I did it twice, trying to get both torches lit, only to find it was all for nothing! (isn't it?)

Edit - oh, you mean the boss fight. Yeah, I imagine it could get a bit tricky with both on you at the same time.

Just been reading about the ng+ changes. Looks quite good. Though I would prefer a change in items tbh

Yeah I meant the fight :).

To be honest I wish they'd just give bosses a different/harder moveset (less opportunities to attack etc) than just throw more enemies at you like I've heard they have done with some bosses. I always feel throwing more enemies at you feels more cheap than anything else which is an issue in some parts of the game (3 on 1 against the Gargoyles, and then haivng about 8 dogs and a red phantom coming at you at the same time, really FROM?). The thing I love about Artorias and Allant is that although they're strong, offer little opportunity to attack and are aggressive (Artorias in particular), they feel like fair fights.

I take it back, Shrine of Amana is the worst area in any souls game. Limited movement, unforeseeable cliff edges, hidden enemies and worst of all, homing spells from 100 miles away with usually at least two coming at you at a time. Sure, you can use a torch and a magic resistant shield at the same time, but the torch attracts the hidden enemies and leaves you weaponless. Such a frustrating area, and you can't even rush through it.

Looking glass Knight...seriously? Sounds so much better than Mirror Knight:rolleyes:. Tbh, I thought it was pretty straight forward, but one of the better bosses. Beat it first time solo with limited health (fell down the lift near it twice:o).

I wonder sometimes how the neighbors don't think im killing my girlfriend or something when im playing this game, shouting expletives at the telly at full voice cant be great after the rat boss beating me for the 9th time.

What's the best starting class for someone who isn't hugely into RPGs??
I don't know if it's the best, but I think Bandit would be worth a go. That's what I started with as you start with a decent weapon and a short bow, ideal for picking enemies off at range which will be very useful.

I got my Collectors Edition guide through yesterday and it's lovely, packed with tons of information. Looking forward to having a really good read of it when I've finished the game as I don't want to spoil it.

I've also decided to play with my build a bit. I ended up with 3 Soul Vessels (for respeccing my character), so I've decided I'm going to play about a bit. Last night I went from a Int/Faith build to a pure Faith build to see how much damage the various Lightning/Sunlight Spears do (Sunlight Spear hits for around 1000 damage a throw!). It's great for PvE as not many bosses are resistant to lightning, but it's poor in PvP as the Spears are too slow to really hit anyone. Tonight I'm going to change to a pure Int build and see what damage the various spells do. I'm thinking spells like Homing Soul Mass and Soul Spear will be a lot more useful in PvE, even if they don't hit quite so hard against bosses. I'll then have one Soul Vessel left if I decide to go back to my mixed build in the end. Should be fun testing it out anyway!

I assume you mean the big rat, if so I am with you on that one. There was an awful lot of swearing in my house last night :(

Well that's called NG+

The first play through is a warmup

Is that the one that starts with the giant Rat asleep and 4 smaller ones waiting for you? That took me a couple of goes to figure out the trick, which for me was keeping really close (without lock on) as opposed to keeping my distance like I normally do. When I did that it was a really easy fight in the end.

Use a big weap with a sweeping attack and you call kill all rats with 1 hit making the whole process quite simple - then just hide under the rat.

Yeah seems quite a simple fight but I suck at this game :D had a few goes of the spider boss aswell, 3 tries got it to 10% and died right at the last hurdle.
