Microsoft: PC Gamers can expect “more focus” from us

During this year’s GDC, Xbox boss Phil Spencer claimed that Microsoft will start focusing – yet again – on PC gaming. As Phil Spencer said, PC gamers can expect more focus from Microsoft in the PC gaming space. And while the company has made such statements in the past, we have to admit that DX12 is a game changer. So yeah, things may turn good this time around… or not?

Phil Spencer also praised Valve and Steam, and described Steam as the backbone of PC gaming for the past ten years. Spencer admitted that Steam has “focused on PC gaming more, in a lot of ways, than Microsoft has,” that ”it’s important to invest in [PC gaming] in a real way,” and that PC gamers can expect to see “tier-1 initiatives for PC gaming from Microsoft beginning this summer.”

Didn't they just make one of these speeches a few months ago?

MS don't give a crap about PC gamers, they make a little speech every so often, and it's constant BS.

The only time I'll stop and take them seriously, is if we were to get a Halo 3 on PC (As that'd be immense on multiplayer) and a few other decent heavy hitters (The rest of the GOW series) etc

Maybe they realise now, that if they can't keep gaming on Windows, they will los massive market share.

Not saying gaming the only reason people use Windows, but if something like steamos works out, then I'd happily stick with that for gaming purposes and lose the windows cost.

I feel like in the past they have assumed the PC market will prevent console market from being all it could, and so pushed that. Maybe they now realise PC here to stay. For a long while anyway.

+1

They really don't care much about pc gaming i don't think. Xbox one is their main thought, pc gaming is an afterthought. Mantle has certainly made them take notice though, which is a good thing.

pfft ms,mantle has lit a fire under their ass

:D bingo and I bet Nvidia are lighting another fire under them too and wanting better DX features after this mess too.

Since Billy boy left MS has just gone pear shaped in many ways.. they stuck a crazy to run one of the biggest companies in the world and this is where we are today Windows mobile OS's on desktops and the endless updates with no real advancements for gamers unless we keep updating the OS so they can let us have the new DX versions that are only minor updates in most cases.

Well let's hope they get the hint and start looking at gamers again and the PC drop in sales last year is clearly because of windows 8 and people didn't want new hardware with that installed on it, it scared off many people to update their laptops and desktops did that mess too. Praying for Windows 9 or Windows 8.1 SE (special edition) to bring back Windows for the desktops without all this tiles rubbish that is for mobile devices only and touch screen applications. Even if I had a touch screen on my desktop I wouldn't use the touch screen for many reasons, 1 - I have a mouse to navigate the screen, 2 - I hate fingerprints and marks on a screen that I use for desktop use and 3- I don't want to have to stretch over my desk to touch the screen for every input when I'm trying to work.

microsoft talk is cheap, show me pc forza or gears of war 2 onwards and i just might take there comments serious

Maybe that's the plan with DX12 simultaneous lunches of up and coming games of PC and XB1 ? sounds plausible to me being as the PS4 has had a much better start.

I was quite impressed that Titanfall was a "Microsoft exclusive" rather than an "Xbox exclusive". I don't remember any game that this has been the case for before - although I await a slew of corrections on this!

Maybe Microsoft has remembered that PC gamers exist, and have started to answer their requests (closing down GFWL, releasing (a) game on PC & Xbox, making DX12 more streamlined)?

I admit, I'm a glass half full kind of guy but honestly, I want to believe. :)

So they've finally realised that the "tablets are the future" POV is exaggerated, Microsoft have done more damage to the PC/desktop market with Windows 8 than tablets ever did.

Yes Microsoft, just like you focused on gamers for Windows Live?
They had the Xbox team to handle and look after (if we can even call it that) GFWL by treating it like a sidedish, that's why GFWL was such an epic failure.

Seriously, M$ really need to look after the xbox and PC gaming community equally and separately...hell, would be better if they just forget about the xfail and focus more on the gaming commuity as a whole. Leave the console to Sony.
