I looking to upgrade my desktop to a i5-4670K and a Z87 Mobo.

I have a 1440p monitor (U2711) and want to know if the DVI ports on the mobo's would output at 1440p, are the DVI ports Dual link?

I don't want a discrete GPU, for now anyway.

Alternatively can I use HDMI @ 1440p and does the Dell U2711 support this?

None of the Mobos I'm looking at (Gigabyte Z87X-D3H) have a Displayport.

Integrated Graphics Processor:
1 x D-Sub port, supporting a maximum resolution of 1920x1200
1 x DVI-D port, supporting a maximum resolution of 1920x1200
* The DVI-D port does not support D-Sub connection by adapter.
1 x HDMI port, supporting a maximum resolution of 4096 x 2160 @ 24 Hz / 2560 x 1600 @ 60 Hz
* Support for HDMI 1.4a version.
Maximum shared memory of 1 GB

Thanks, I was pretty sure the Mobo could do 1440p over HDMI but is there any reason that the U2711 is only limited to HDMI 1.3 (1080p)?

has anyone here successfully used HDMI @1440P? Any issue?

edit^^^ - thanks for the above...It should work then.

I read some where that the HDMI port on the U2711 was only a pass-through and would accept HDMI 1.4 inputs.

Can anyone confirm?

HDMI didn't show as many resolutions, probably because we had to use a different computer as the source (a laptop). Again, "odd" resolutions caused some incorrect behavior, but we don't really fault Dell. 1152x648 and 1776x1000 (underscanned 720p and 1080p, respectively) have a black border at all times, and like the DVI connection 1360x768 was squashed vertically unless you use the "1:1" setting. DisplayPort behavior was the same as HDMI. Note also that the HDMI connection didn't allow us to select resolutions above 2048x1152 (a 16:9 resolution). 2048x1152 was also the maximum resolution we could use on a VGA connection. We're not sure if the limitation was with our test laptop or if it's inherent with the U2711, as we don't have any HDMI connections that we're sure will properly handle 2560x1440.

Thanks - will wait to see if anyone here has used the Dell U2711 @ 1440p via HDMI.

edit:

For everyone, providing you have an HDMI 1.4a output on your laptop, get a 1.4a certified cable, aka dual link hdmi cable, 90 percent of those cables you can buy are not dual link. I have a gtx 660m in my G75 it has hdmi 1.4a and with a dual link cable i can run greater than 1080p resolutions.
