Don't you have a £1000 excess or something silly?

You somehow pay roughly the same as my 25 yr old girlfriend does in a 1.6 mazda with no claims, 5 years ncb in a good post code. That was after extensive amounts of comparison and calling for the best price as well!
 
any particular reason for going for a new mini cooper s?
for sub 20k you could pick up a very decent JCW - unless you particularly like the look of the new one...
 
even if you can get a gp or jcw for the money?
have to say i'm not a fan of the look of the new one but haven't been in one, wonder what the depreciation will be like on the new ones...

First year was a £900 excess, this year it's £400 I think.

I pay less than my GF who is 6 years older and drives a 1.4l Fiat.

My point still stands I got insurance that cheap for the car at that age, it doesn't mean you will but it equally doesn't mean you won't.

For what it's worth I still can't get a decent quote on a Honda S2000, but pretty much everything else under the sun is sub £500.

To be fair, at 20 with 3 years NCB and a £250+£350 excess I'm getting quotes of £890 for a Boxter S, and that's in a grade F post code.


Ahhh dammit now I'm tempted by Boxters again :(
 
I'd keep away from the GT86, I love driving mine but it's making it's 8th appearance at the dealer due to faults that they seem unable to fix and are refusing to replace parts without kicking up a fuss. 6 months to get a radio replaced under warranty, still having the gearbox looked at as it has had issues since new. Fantastic car but if it goes wrong it will be a nightmare at the dealers.
 
 
The Delta and the M5 Touring? Oh my. Not sure I'd consider a Cerb as they do have a reputation for, well, not being exactly reliable.

£20k and I'd probably go bankrupt on this Stunning car and looks the absolute business.

Otherwise there's a lovely Estoril Blue M5?
There's also an Imola Red Z4M?
You could defy all logic and get a Clio V6 but they're a handful apparently.
Something also French but Rather different?
I do like the colours of this Elise and leaves room for a snotter if you need to transport anything.
Any number of late model, well looked after E46 M3CS editions.

Simply put in a budget into Pistonheads classified, set the budget (I'd go £10k-£20k), wheel drive, manual, petrol and see what takes your fancy.

I much prefer the new mini to the old one but for some reason they still dont quite do it for me. Though I know they are good cars.

At 20k I think I would want a bigger car, I don't know why, but I like some of the suggestions on the first page. :)

I thought I recognised your name from the 2nd Gear Issue thread :)

As for OP, if you do look at a GT86 take one for a test drive first. Its great fun but plenty of people bemoan its modest power and write it off, so see what you think. Also, as someone else said, it might not have that premium car feel. Not that youll care when you're out for a drive in it :)

The Porsche suggestion did get me thinking. Found this. My only problem is I have no clue on what to be wary of in regards to older Porsche's.

Personally for your budget stick with a Boxster or Cayman and save some cash. A £13k Cayman or Boxster is going to be 99% of the fun of that 911 and you will be able to properly maintain it with the change.

Up to 100k and 9 years old you can get an official Porsche warranty which is about £800 on the Boxster and Cayman, covers pretty much everything apart from tyres and brakes and is worth it if you don't know much about the cars.

I've had mine covered for 3 years now and although nothing major has gone wrong one trip to the dealer can cause the warranty to pay for itself (my air con condenser went, instant £1.3k bill paid for by the warranty).

The running costs of my car have been pretty cheap I think;

£450 service (only needs servicing every 2 years)
As discussed before - cheap insurance
£450~ tax
Petrol @ 21MPG (V power)
111 point check and 2 year warranty @ £1.5k
MOT @ £50 x 2

My thoughts exactly.

I was always under the impression that the previous 1 series had an awful interior and quality was well below BMWs normal standards.

Afterall it is the "cheap BMW".

I know that the newe 1 Series is a big step up though.

Exactly the same thought as me.

I started to think what i'd have for £20k and am now genuinely pondering how to convince the better half that it'd be worth selling both my cars for a Lotus Esprit...
