Hi the builds use is just going to be gaming and video game capture for videos.

Obviously the 290 is a more powerful card but if I'm just gaming at 1080p 60hz on a single monitor with current and up coming games is the 290s extra power wasted? Or will there still be a noticeable difference ?
 
its about £100 difference between the cheapest 280x and 290, of course the 290 will be faster and last longer i guess it depends on your financial position, i dont think a 290 will be wasted on 1080p and sometime or another the extra gpu grunt is going to come in usefull
 
I would go 290. Will last You longer and maybe unlock to 290x :)
You get true audio and better mantle support than 280.
 
if I do go for the 290 my budget for monitor goes from £250 to £150ish, can you still get a good monitor for that sort of money. I have to say im still unsure which to get
 
depends I picked up my 120hz for 150.......but it was discontinued model; basically they were just about to release next years model :)

you can find some very good models around that price. It it have all the bells and whistles nope......but honestly - I'd go with the 290.....get decent monitor; and then pick up a better monitor later that will sit with your other one......

So the 280x has an audio feature on it that the 290 does not ? hmm did not know that ! thanks

is the 280X a capable card to max out current games at the moment ? I suppose if I got a good monitor I would have that for maybe 3/4 years but I might upgrade the GPU in a year.

Every time I go to order my parts I get in this situation I was ment to order everything 2 weeks ago but I start to think hmm should I get this opposed to this ! nightmare !
 
280X is a re-badged 7970, good card but years old. 290 equals new tech, 4Gb vram, 512bit memory bus, truaudio, mantle etc. For future proofing has to be the 290. :D
 
290, I've just modded skyrim with all the bells and whistles and it is hovering around 25-40fps (sometimes as low as 10 fps) on my 7970. This is at 1080p.
