advice please BMW 125d Msport .

I know many of you are huge bmw fans so this is where you can make yourself usefull.
A friend of mine is trading in his civic type r for a new 125d m sport but wants to know if he should go for the manual or 8 speed auto? Also is he making a good choice with a 125d?

Auto all the way, suits the engine far better.

without more info about his circumstances its a little hard to advise.

if he is looking for an economical small hatchback that will be good for motorway journeys and has a nice badge. then yes, he is making a good choice.

if he is looking to win at the track and experience responsive, driver focused precision feedback and performance then probably not.

+2 on the auto box. I have it in the 530 and it's brilliant.

Engine choice is good too. Great wee engine, and perfect for a 1 series.

I thought as much. 8 speed auto it is then. Just looked at a few reviews and they seem to rate it quite highly especially considering the performance and the co2 + mpg.

I've been having stupid thoughts about swapping my manual F21 125i for another 1 series with the sports automatic gearbox.

Get the auto, or your friend might have buyer's remorse like me

I've got the 8 speed in my M135i. It's was one of the main selling points for me. It's nice having an auto without any of the downsides of having an auto... If you know what I mean.
