Nvidia's GTC 2014 Thread

Does it matter? If people can afford it and want it, good on them. If they can't or don't want it good on them. Keeping on about it won't make it cheaper, regardless if you are a gamer or a developer....

This + 1000

Nvidia have cards aimed at every level. Why so much hate because they can command a high price tier? Jealously perhaps DM, does somebody have shares in AMD perhaps?

If you want the best gaming GPU get a GTX 780Ti. It doesn't cost $2999.

Well done for missing the point, I laughed at the price(which incidentally does matter), then I pulled up the people making excuses for the price by insisting it wasn't aimed at gamers. Considering Jensen was on stage at the time saying it was for gamers, I was focusing on the utter BS Nvidia excuse making, not the price.

Either way if Titan cost $1000, and the 780gtx was $700, what happens if the next Titan is $1500, the next 780gtx equivalent may be $1000., etc, etc.

Nvidia keeps raising prices, no one says anything, no one complains, prices just go up.

People complain and don't buy, prices don't go up. Being vocal about horrendous pricing IS important.

No Maxwell news but I am not surprised, GTC is generally not a gaming graphics conference - it is more about developments in other sectors of the graphics market and technology industry as a whole.

I'm sure we will hear more news on Maxwell soon :)

Titan Z. omg Nvidia have hit a new low. I will NOT waste my hard earned money. Truly the first GPU for the super duper RICH. nvidia needs to stop now.

There's always AMD ;)

$3000................. hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Why would you not buy 2 Titans for 2k? $3000 is completely ******* ridiculous. before you factor in that Titan's pricing was completely ******* ridiculous.

Also their comparison, the entire google brain can fit on it, right, because those 2000 computers, the memory involved there, and data storage, all fits on the gpu. Also each cpu core at 4ghz has equal performance to a single 1ghz Nvidia core.... lol.

He quite clearly said it WAS for gamers as well as other people.

He pre-empted Titan Z by talking about Titan.... while also saying Titan enables you to game at 4k at max settings with max framerate. He most certainly talked about gaming in regards to Titan, and the Titan and GTX brand is the consumer, not the professional brand.

It's not a Quadro, again he spoke directly about gaming on the Titan before introducing Titan Z, he also said after the UE4 demo "this is why we had to make Titan Z".

It's aimed at gamers as much as anyone else, they prefer and want people to buy expensive versions of cards for any business application. Consumer cards are for home users, some people game at home, others write code, run simulations, do their own research. It's absolutely aimed at games as he's said so at least twice in this presentation and it's got consumer branding and has no professional support.

THe price is ridiculous. It's 2x Titans at 3x Titan cost, and Titan was massively overpriced to begin with.

Aside from the people saying otherwise, everything Jensen has said specifically was that Titan is a consumer product.

He said Titan was for gaming, and said after the UE demo "this is why we had to make Titan Z", how could he more clearly have linked it to being for gamers/consumers.

Yup, of the cards OCUK have sold and the guys running Titans, the massive majority aren't being used for gaming..... sure.

Likewise you're not trying to paint the insane price positively, I'm being negative.... and Jensen didn't talk primarily about Titan for gaming before introducing Titan Z, before showing a game demo, before saying that is why they made Titan Z.:rolleyes:

And the Nvidia apologists saying "it's not expensive, it's not aimed at gamers".

I don't have to want to buy something to say it's overpriced, and I can pull someone up on defending the price based on a ridiculous notion. Saying it's not aimed at gamers while the man who owns the company that is releasing it, the man who announced it, talked about it in relation to gaming more than anything else.

Then I got accused of attempting to paint Nvidia negatively while Jensen himself said it was for gamers.

No, I didn't miss the point at all. You said it enough times!

But one question for DM. Where can I get one of these Titan blacks for $1000, the cheapest ones OCUK have on pre order are over $1300.

OK yes it is expensive, but out of interest how much were the other dual GPU cards compared too, two of the originals when they were launched?

Yup no mention of new Maxwell stuff, but I suppose if they had it would have detracted form the new dual GK110 cards.

DM is right though

No, he isn't. And do you know why? Because he wouldn't buy one if it was cheap, let alone priced accordingly. Saying something is expensive is like saying the sky is blue.

If it's too expensive, don't buy it. If you don't need it, don't buy it.
Yes this card is priced astronomically, but it's a niche product. They can charge what they like for it - and frankly it won't surprise me if they sell a fair few units.

Most will be in the same mindset as I am being a Ti owner, and will watch this one sail on by. This would make for an excellent no holds barred 4K setup though, if you were willing to part with the best part of $3000

I present to you :

Because everything Nvidia makes is a super computer.... everything everyone else makes... is nothing.

The AMDShillz Student.

The fact of the matter is Nvidia know they can charge what they like because they can put name to brand. It's not brand loyalty, it's basic business practice. You drive down the competition by bringing out something that genuinely offers you the same quality for all fields. These will sell, so clearly there isn't any.

So to bring this down to earth, I won't be buying this because I can't afford it.

...continue debate :D
