At 27, I've bought my first car!

I may be wrong, but my understanding is that if the car has the cup packs it should have the red Brembo calipers.

Just one I snapped after parking up this evening, it's started raining now so may not take it for a blast tonight, probably will though!

It's not a Cup version melchy.

Nice. This is the best looking Clio sport in my opinion and has aged well (as in even now it doesn't look dated). I am not keen on the 200 or the brand new one.

Clio 182 had Xenons as standard.
Clio 197 had Xenons as an option.
Clio 200 didn't have Xenons at all. The 'Cornering Lights' option gives you projector lenses, still with Halogen bulbs, which you can then fit a HID kit in.

First car done properly, enjoy it! I often ponder swapping my ST for one of these...

There was a Fiesta ST500 on offer which was in excellent condition, however the owner had listed it for sale for £6,500 as a private sale! I messaged them saying I'd like to have a look but being up front I will not be paying any more than £5,200 for it - they came back saying £5,800 was the lowest they'd go - no chance!

Doesn't look like the cambelt has been done yet, bad times! I'll get it changed for peace of mind, I'll circulate a few e-mails to the local garages for quotes with a new water pump too seeing as it's driven off the cambelt and it's fairly common practice to replace it whilst it's stripped down as far as I'm aware.

It's actually a whopping 16.66% faster than that actually, give us some credit, a pant wettingly fast 35mph! Saying that, in the summer months all coastal roads drop down to a 25mph limit :p

Dash is plain and boring, but I'm never looking at it!

Picture of the worst of the alloys, passenger front, been quoted £300.00 to have all 4 repaired and resprayed, not sure on the colour choice yet though. All in due time, have to get the cambelt sorted first.

Had my first quote back for the cam belt and other related bits, ouch!

Many thanks for your request for an estimate to replace the cam belt and water pump on your Renault Clio Sport 197. The cost to carry out this job would be £949.95 covering parts and labour. This would include a new auxiliary belt with tensioner and roller, timing belt with tensioner and roller, crankshaft damper pulley and coolant pump. All parts and labour are warranted for one year.

Second quote in, does this sound correct?

I am able to give you a price on the parts but after discussing the labour involved with our mechanic, he was unable to give me a quote re labour. The parts would cost £191.95 for the cambelt kit and waterpump, and they would take about 2 days to order in, however, my mechanic said on this particular vehicle, when you disconnect the battery or drain the water out to work on the vehicle, you have to then reset everything in order for the car to be able start again afterwards, as the vehicle will disable if the sensors read that the battery has been disconnected or that there was no water, even if the water has been put back in. Because of this he is unable to give a time scale for the work at this stage. Our hourly labour rate is £60.

The book time is 6 hours to change the cambelt as it is quite involved, you really need to find a Renault specialist who has the correct tools as its easy for the timing to go slightly out which effects the power. Our local specialists did it in under 3 hours so the total cost was £350 including an MOT and replacing the gearbox fluid i supplied.

No idea what that 2nd quote is talking about sounds rubbish to me? I've changed the battery on ours after it died on a cold day this winter, the car was left with a very flat battery for about 4 days and then 15 mins not connected at all while i swapped the new one in and everything was fine. Just needed to put the radio code in and job done...

That second quote sounds stupid! The car looks good though, I was never a fan of the dash but they are great cars. As above find a specialist, the cambelt really needs to be done properly and a specialist might be cheaper because they can do it quicker!

Think I'll steer clear of the place that gave the second quote then!

The first quote was from Freelance, our only Renault dealer - http://www.freelance.gg/ at least they seem to know what they're talking about despite the high cost.

£350 including an MOT sounds like a right baragain! Not sure where I should be looking for getting a similar sort of price. I'm relatively limited in terms of garage choices being on a small island, not sure who else I should try.

EDIT: Found these guys - http://www.euromarque.gg/

EDIT 2: Who charge £82.00 an hour labour :(

Cambelts on these need to be done by a Renault specialist. The timing on these is very precise.
I've seen a couple of islanders posting on Cliosport.net and clio197.net - might be worth signing up to see who they use.
Off the top of my head, I'd be expecting cam belt to be around £800, or around £1K if doing water pump too.
