Nvidia's GTC 2014 Thread

No, he isn't. And do you know why? Because he wouldn't buy one if it was cheap, let alone priced accordingly. Saying something is expensive is like saying the sky is blue.

If it's too expensive, don't buy it. If you don't need it, don't buy it.
Yes this card is priced astronomically, but it's a niece product. They can charge what they like for it - and frankly it won't surprise me if they sell a fair few units.

Most will be in the same mindset as I am being a Ti owner, and will watch this one sail on by. This would make for an excellent no holds barred 4K setup though, if you were willing to part with the best part of $3000

Agreed. No idea why lots of people seem to be throwing their toys out of the pram over this Titan Z, it's a product for rich people who want the absolute best of the best (nothing wrong with that) - if you can't afford it, don't buy it; but also certainly don't moan about it!

DM's personal mission is to deviate in as many places as humanly possible to put down Nvidia. Whilst he sits there with his array of 290s feeling extremely smug with himself.

So saying something is expensive is like saying the sky is blue, which it is. So it's expensive and that is true... but I'm wrong?

I'm so completely fed up with your constant barrage of attacks on me in every single thread with your inane nonsense.

The entire world is laughing at the $3000 price, and all my responding posts were to someone saying "it's not for gamers".... while Jensen was saying "it's for gamers".

Most of the posts had nothing to do with the price itself, but arguing the point of if it was aimed at gamers or not. The only thing I see from your post Frosty is your insistence on attacking everything I say and making it anti Nvidia.

No, the truth is $3000 is insane, the material cost of the card makes the $3000 price an embarrassing rip off.

AMD offer expensive and over priced things, saying it's aimed at gamers(the main bulk of my argument against someone insisting it wasn't) isn't anti Nvidia, if it is please explain how Nvidia offering a gaming card is "bad". Saying $3000 for a couple gpu cores is not anti Nvidia, it's just fact. The FX chips at $500 were a joke in price, I also said the 6990/7990 were overpriced.

Every single time certain people hear ANYTHING about Nvidia that isn't "they are the best" those people instantly attack the poster rather than discuss what is being talked about. Not surprising that it is always the same handful of people.

You know what could have happened, is I laughed at the price, Boom laughed at the price, and that was it. Because the price was laughable, if it was a Quadro card I'd have no problem(professional cards get a significant amount of support at business level).

If AMD announced a $3000 299x or whatever, I'll laugh at it. Unless it's Firepro branded I won't make excuses for it being not aimed at gamers. If Nvidia guys laugh at a $3000 290 dual card I would laugh right along with them, not make up complete tosh and argue about it over several pages then start accusing the people laughing of being out to get me. I'll laugh at a $1500 dual 290 card as it goes, let alone $3000.

I laughed at the overclocked Piledriver prices, I made no excuse for them, I didn't say it's 5Ghz so the price is justified, it's an overclocked £160 chip and it was laughable to attempt to sell them at the price they did.

It was bad enough for Boom to accuse me, but at least we were having the discussion to begin with, the fact that you Frosty, as per usual find any thread and attack me is completely unwarranted, as per usual, and absolutely typical of your posting style.

But one question for DM. Where can I get one of these Titan blacks for $1000, the cheapest ones OCUK have on pre order are over $1300.
You are forgetting about the UK ripoff tax (20% VAT and 10% import tax I believe but I may be wrong). A 10 second search at Newegg showed me a titan black for $1010

Please, let's not turn this into a massive, stupid, pointless argument about the Titan Z price - this is a thread on Nvidia's GTC of this year, it was not started for it just to turn into another ridiculous flamewar.

This :)

So what else was mentioned besides the TZ? Any more mention of gsync or this new wonder driver?

Nope.

Pascal, 2016, and seemingly from the graph it only stated (virtual)unified memory, Nvlink, 3dstacked memory for Pascal in 2016. Meaning the (virtual) unified memory which was previously talked about for Maxwell, months ago, which went completely silent on the 750ti launch seems to have slipped to 2016 now as the only thing listed under Maxwell on the graph was DX12.

So very little new for Maxwell it would seem. Stacked memory makes a lot more sense for a 2016 product than sooner, but AMD/Intel/Nvidia have been talking about that for products for the past 5 years, with several generations for all of them showing it slipping further and further back :( A shame because getting memory on package with on die level communication speeds will be a MASSIVE, massive game changer. Think along the lines of EDRAM but being the entire memory, not having to actually make it inside the die(so several smaller dies) which leads to massively reduced costs, improved yields. Much closer to what Intel did with Iris Pro but more memory + less cost + a company that cares about gaming performance = win.

Nvidia talked up Grid again, AMD talk up their cloud gaming services.... no one ever mentions latency.... they give zero impression of being closer to reducing latency significantly. At Nvidia's last thing they mentioned sub 200ms latency as a target, didn't hear any latency numbers today. Not entirely sure why they are all focused on it.

Yup no mention of new Maxwell stuff, but I suppose if they had it would have detracted form the new dual GK110 cards.

Yup they will want to milk that cow before disclosing how much better Maxwell is. Probably be a sudden launch in a few months.

If AMD do launch a dual GPU, it's possible Nvidia will launch a dual GTX 780Ti card. Less vram and Dcompute gimped to compete with AMD on price and noise / heat. Until then it's full milking stations ahead with Titan Z.

To be fair if you're a gamer that's willing to pay $2999 for a GPU just for gaming, then Nvidia deserve your money lol. A pair of GTX 780Ti's makes much more sense for gaming.

I'll be sticking with my 780tis for the time being, as soon as I sniff any release of a new card they're going straight on the MM.

Cheers all :)

Pascal looks rather tasty, but by contrast maxwell less so. Though it is nice to see nvidia and amd really driving technology forward.

This along with dx12 is making 2016 out to be the year of the PC gamer and the time the consoles are really left behind....again :)
