Grade 4/5 Acromioclavicular separation

Went over my handlebars on Friday and landed on my shoulder, clavicle has gone up and backwards so I need hacking open and screwing together...

Never had surgery before, anybody else had similar? It's not the op itself that bothers me it's how long they'll keep me in for I don't like the sound of :/

Just make sure they don't mix you up with the guy having a sex change!

Best of luck, sure you will be fine.

When I was last put under all I remember was when they put the anaesthetic in I started to get a funny taste in my mouth then a few seconds later I woke up on the ward. Nothing to worry about mate you will fall asleep before you know it. At least you don't have to go to work for a whole :)

LOL,

Don't worry about it, I have had a few ops over the last 2 years. You always feel rough post op, Just make sure you have good pain relief afterwards. Most surgery's today are day case so I cant imagine your going to be staying in long. Take some ear plugs as wards are noisy enviroments

Twilight sleep or something they call that drug. Not sure what it's actual pharma name is, but it's great stuff. When I was put under the nurse asked me "can you feel anything yet" and I looked over at her and said "nope" and then I just remember my vision rolling back like my eyes were rolling into the back of my head and the next thing I'm walking up on the recovery ward.

I had an operation to stitch the muscle and nerves in my forehead back together after someone decided to chuck a wine glass in the air :-\ I was awake for it and could feel what the surgeon was doing but it didn't hurt, rather a odd experience. The op lasted about an hour

Imagine being someone that has surgery on their brain and has to remain awake so that when the doctors start messing with parts of the brain, they as a patient can respond lucidly and report back to the doctors.

I've only had surgery once, all round a pleasant experience! Waking up from the anesthsia is an odd feeling though, feels like you only just shut your eyes.

Good Luck, you will be fine.

Thanks chaps :)

Strangely looking forward to it... Had a quick google and it looks like I may have to stay overnight but probably not!

The sex change post made me lol beyond what my shoulder could take!!!

Someone I work with had that done to her. Strapped to a board with the back of her head cut open and she could feel everything.. *shudders*

If it's any consolation the chances of the surgeon teabagging you when you're under are very slim.

One thing I will say, I'm not sure if the guidance is that they'll keep you over night, but even if it's planned as a quick in and out, take an overnight bag. A colleague of mine had a delay in their surgery start time which meant the hospital kept them in under night (something about the anaesthesia and not discharging late at night), faffing around trying to get essentials is a pain.

Sure you'll be absolutely fine though OP.

I've had GA before - I hated being on nil by mouth, and felt rotten the next day - I was almost green I was so unwell owing to the GA (I think they gave me too much!).

However, it's amazing what surgery can do.

In another op I had keyhole on my shoulder, and whilst it's a lot better, it is still in a useless state of repair.

Good luck and hope the rehab/physio goes well afterwards - that'll be the toughest part of your treatment.

Me too, and I had totally the opposite experience coming out of anaesthesia. Blurred vision, unable to speak, overwhelming feeling of not breathing properly, being aware of a nurse and wanting to scream but being unable to.

Still remember it like it was yesterday and not over twenty years ago.

*shudders*
