Ordered my NZXT H440, forked up the £9.75 for delivery expecting £104.74 at the checkout...only to find that VAT is charged for the delivery cost too?

Not that ~£1.80 something matters that much on a £100+ order, but I do find it a slight slap in the face to have a rather-high delivery charge listed, to then have 20% slapped on top.

Why not just list the actual charge we have to pay?

Thanks

Just tried going through the OcUK checkout, pick delivery of £9.75 and indeed VAT is then charged on this. Would have expected it to say excluding VAT somewhere near where you pick your delivery option, especially as the site is set to show all prices inclusive of VAT for me.

Only the prices of products have to be shown inclusive of VAT (The Price Marking Order 2004).

The price of services (e.g. delivery) don't.

From HMRC:

Postal services provided by the Post Office are exempt from VAT, but this exemption does not extend to similar services provided by other suppliers, even where this might be seen as being in direct competition with the Post Office. However, if any delivery charge you make to your own customers includes the cost of stamps you buy from the Post Office you may have to charge VAT on the whole amount including the cost of those stamps.

Might be legal, but when the site has a button to switch between all prices being inclusive of VAT and exclusive of VAT it is misleading to then show delivery without VAT when you have chosen to view all other prices with VAT included and not to say ex. VAT next to it.

We are already aware of this, it isn't so much an issue as it is correct how it is listed. However some customers do find it confusing (and I do agree myself), and we are working on ways to improve this so it is clearer and more to the point.

Thank you for letting us know. :)
