I currently have a Peugeot 107 (2008 reg) and I'm looking to move to a newish hatchback. Budget is £8000, which also includes a £3000 valuation I have on my current car.

I'm after something less than 3 years old and ideally under 30k in mileage. So far I've been looking at (and seriously considering) a Seat Ibiza 2011/2012. My driving instructor had an older version of one of these and it felt great to drive, and he seemed to know his stuff being an ex-mechanic. I've also been looking at the 2011 Fiestas which have great reviews but I don't see many blokes driving these at all :p

Any thoughts? I'm out of my comfort zone when it comes to cars so any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Both the fiesta and Ibiza ( outside of the cupra) are decent enough cars tbh.

Personally I'd have the fiesta - its got a very busy dash but its still much nicer inside than the cheap looking Ibiza IMO.

Neither will set your world alight with a modest engine, but at the same time both will do the job of small, newish runabout just fine.

Was in a friends 1.2polo GT TSI or whatever they are yesterday.
49.8mpg... in a petrol!?!? WTF mway run
Was nice enough inside, comfortable and nippy.

well worth a look.

also Mazda 3 mps?

The polo seemed a lovely car in all honesty

8k hatch private sale mazda 3 mps a mk2 should be about doable :p mk1 definatley, high road tax tho
He only says 8k newish hatchback, m3 covers both, less than 30k miles, likely tbh
the 3 also has a shedload of toys on the mk2 :p

You're honestly not seeing how innapropriate an mps is for someone who had a 107 and now wants a cooking Ibiza?

BTW nice mk2's are also 10k+ and will still burst the 30k requirement

Everyones due a change :p Ticks most of the requirements in the OP :P
Seen decent lookin ones for less than 10k recently, unless you look at mazda approved ones haha

A "cooking" Ibiza? Y've lost me lol

Cheers for all your advice. Well I tried a Fiesta 1.2, Ibiza 1.4 and a Polo 1.4 (all 2011 reg) and I ended up going for the Polo as the interior, build quality and drive seemed the best out of the bunch. Well pleased :)

Bit of a bugger that when I went into the dealership today it was £8397 and I had to haggle quite hard with the part-ex (adding an extra £300 and getting some mats thrown in for free), only to come home and see that it's now listed for £7998 on VW's used car page (the same reg)!

Guessing as it's a done deal and paid for, there's no way of getting that back? I suppose I can still show my displeasure as I drive off the forecourt though.

Key factor is how much it cost you to switch i.e. what was the balance you had to pay. Had you been paying £7998 for the Polo then they may not have thrown you the extra £300 on the p/x
