Fake sunglasses can be quite bad for your eyes.
If they dont have the proper filters to block the harmful light but are dark so they dilate your pupils and actually let more harmful light in than if you werent wearing anything.
That may have been the case buying some tat from a lucky lucky man on holiday but the decent oakley fakes you get these days are top quality.

I use a real pair of photocromatic rudy projects but on mega bright days I will use my fake oakley, I have a pair of recent radars and jawbones both have interchangable iridium and polarized lens, I mean you can see that they have been correctly coated and you can test the polarization yourself.
 
And modern stopping distances too :p

My eyeballs nearly popped out!!

I suspect the modern aerobar Dia-comp long levers help however.

Not a problem.

Alloy rims = still work in the wet, unlike the original steel rims.

Ah well, I'm looking at a minimum 8 week wait for an MRI scan of my knee (unless I go private which I'm seriously considering) - my physio has now moved from thinking I've got a ligament damaged to torn cartilage in the lower knee. Agony to hobble about on, off my work, hacked off and no more bike for me for quite possibly months. Annoyed is an understatement. I can almost feel my fitness levels plummeting as I sit here popping Ibuprofen. :(

They have a diamond pattern stamped into the rims to try and disperse water

How old is your Galaxy?

What size frame?

I'm possibly looking at the 64cm version, I believe the top tube is only 57cm?

This is perfect for me (all my height in my legs).

Ideally though, I want 700c wheels and 130mm rear frame spacing - to allow modern indexed gears.
 
Not sure how old it is. Got it off gumtree from the guy who had it from new - but he couldnt remember how old it was either :(

Think it may be a 58 but I'll go and measure it now.
 
@touch, I suspect your braking woes are the steel rims, not the calipers.

I was shocked, the Dawes Lightning stops better than my Allez with alloy rims, but like I said, I am using Dia-Comp aero levers.
 
The seat tube angle and the head tube angle are fairly similar, so i guess a taller frame could still have a relatively short top tube.

Also WOW @ the price! Is that the going rate? I paid £40 for mine.

Interesting to see Planet X opening a store in Edinburgh - if they have the same prices as the website that will certainly shake up the Edinburgh bike stores a bit!!!

I was in the process of restoring my 1989 Peugeot Chorus Reynolds 753 with original parts. Full late 80's Campag Chorus groupset.

I had everything and then I fitted the mint condition Campag Delta brakes. Apparently these were developed because the side pulls had insufficient power for braking in wet conditions.

Jebus flipping Christ. They would have been the end of me. I stripped be bike down to single speed and fitted modern Chorus brakes. If it couldn't be a completely faithful restoration it wasn't worth doing and I couldn't use those brakes.

The current Chorus skeleton brakes aren't great BTW. I think my Sram Force brakes were brilliant but the Ultegra 6800 callipers are the shizzle.

Steel rims or aluminium?

Steel rims are strong, but they are dreadful for braking.

Edit: If it was a nice classic bike, with steel wheels I would rebuild the old hubs onto modern aluminium rims.

I've sold all the bits now. I simply wouldn't trust the brakes the rebuild required.

I need to start looking into all this bike restoring lark, as I'm planning on building a single speed bike out of an old Peugeot frame, Bianchi if I get rich somehow.

Coincidentally, my wife is on the phone to her mother, and it sounds like the mother has bought or been given an old bike and my name appears to be being bandied around in the context of fixing it up...

Looks great - If your brakes work and you are happy, great.

The only problems I remember having on old bikes are with steel wheels in the wet = braking non-existent, as touch says, you get noise only.
