Vandalism in New Estate

My family have moved into a new estate in Derby and everything has been good, its nice an quiet at night and the majority of the neighbours all get on together. But now the council in their infinite wisdom created a path, from the old state into the new one. They removed the security fence and created the path into the close where I live. So it’s now easier for anyone to come into our estate, instead of using the main entrance/ road.

Now since the creation of the path there has been a spate of damage to cars (keyed and tyre's punctured) and theft from properties.

We are all meeting next week with Councillors and the Police to discuss our issues.

Does anyone know what we can really expect from the meeting?

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to move forward, I am thinking that they won't be digging up the path and putting the security fences back up anytime soon.

If you can attribute the spate of crime to the newly created pathway, then I see no reason why the decision can't be reversed. You could always start a constituted residents group. From experience it seems to carry more weight when dealing with local councils/police etc.

The path would have been a requirement on the planning application for the development so no that wont happen. Also why on earth would you want the security fencing up? Again that would have been part of the Building Warrant requirement as since its a new estate (read as building site) to prevent unnecessary accidents / law suits from civilians. Now that it is finished there is no requirement for it to be there.

Punji pits and claymores.

In all honesty, the won't take the path away - probably get a PCSO walking round for a couole of days.

The security fence was out there years ago as the new estate has been built on an old college site.

Behind the fence on one side is our front garden and on the other side is a playing field, then the main road and other estate.

We live in a close, where there was only one way in and out. Now the path is there and is open to anyone to enter from the side.

My street is basically a rat run for the local sink estate foot patrol. Always getting damage to cars etc.

Wait till they start moving the scum into the new estate.

They did that with ours. We had a relatively nice neighbourhood, fairly quiet. Then some namby pamby liberal at the council decided that moving an ASBO family in would be a good idea as, in not so many words, "our neighbourhood would be a good influence on them and make them into upstanding citizens".

[sarcasm]Yeah, it worked REALLY well.[/sarcasm]

We can't afford Claymores or IAD's at the moment. :D

Having a extra rozzer in a car or on foot in the day time, is not really gonna do anything, as all the damage is being done at night. :(

I am thinking of investing in a CCTV system, which would give you clear images at night, any idea's?

Mysticsniper, the police actually have a lot of info and advice on this that will have been consulted on at design stage, ask why the pedestrian access wasn't included in the original site plan, perhaps the police recommended there not be one?.

We're pretty secluded where I am and I went to school with the council estate lot so we get on well. But why try and socially engineer communities? Communities develop organically on their own.

So glad to live in a small village, same thing happened to my friends dad, his front yard was right next to the path from the council estate, they would not close the path so he put up CCTV, it's been ok now for the past few years, scum like anonymity so move on when they notice cameras (if luck is with you).

Because we live in a time where liberalism is a menace to society but allowed to control the system.

Schools are a perfect micro-environment for what I mean. If you were naughty then you were disciplined, now if you're naughty, they find a syndrome for you and then you're REWARDED.

Of course the parents of these naughty children love it because it absolves them of any blame in relation to their poor/non-existent parenting.

"oooh it's not his fault, he's got XYY" - no it's your fault for not disciplining him during his formative years when he stepped out of line.

I feel your (parents'/family's) pain.

I've recently moved homes into a nice new-build village. Sadly, there are 2-3 footpaths leading to/from the surrounding closes and high street.
One of these is council owned.

Having lived here for about 8 weeks so far, there's only been 2 notable events that I have seen involving the denizens of the other area passing through; it sadly involved them standing under the one illuminated street light, smoking joints then looking with torches at everyone's cars, inside and out.

Police arrived too late, and they'd already gone.

Yea my parent's moved to a brand new council estate in the 80's and just bought the house after they had lived there for a few years.

A lovely quiet area on the outskirts of Nottingham with only one long road leading upto a the cul-de-sac at the far end of the state.

in the late 80s and early 90's the council started moving all the problem families into the area :|

people with 18-22 year old sons that started robbing their neighbours lol......

When I was around 13 a guy the same age as me moved in to the estate and became friends with the same people as me.

This one guy pretty much corrupted the whole teenage population of the area by teaching everyone how easy it was to steal motorbikes and cars.

I haven't been back there in about 10 years but it's known as one of the no go areas in Nottingham at night even though it's just a tiny estate that takes you about 10 minutes to walk from one end to the other..

The good people of an estate don't influence the troubled families... it's the other way around and the troubled families kids end up corrupting all the local kids and ruining an area seemingly for life..

The majority of the people I grew up with who would have went on to get jobs and be of some benefit to society instead ended up being mostly career criminals who were robbing houses when they were as young as age 15-16.

I know from their face book pages most of them are still in and out of prison a lot and their kids will likely end up going down the same road.

It always amazes me that most of them have partners who are happy to wait 2-3 years any time they get sent down for another crime :|

They don't even appear ashamed by it and just openly post on facebook like "can't wait for XXX to get out" ....

All of them end up with pics on their face book that were clearly taken in a prison cell as well like it's some kind of honour
