Are they any good to us normal folk?

I've seen the name obviously but which model is best to buy? On the cycle to work can you buy a bike more than £1000 and pay the extra towards it like you can with other well respected brands?

Thinking of getting one after someone recommended a Trek shop as the best service he's ever had which is why he went back ever since.

They make two model lines; the Madone and Domane. The Madone is a straight road bike and the Domane is for rough road and cobbled spring classics. The models are numbered so the higher the number the better the bike.

Good bikes, very comfy but a bit dull. Tainted by their association with Lance Armstrong. My LBS is a Trek dealer and is the worst bike shop in Christendom.

Nothing wrong with Trek bikes.

I don't like them for buying out and destroying Bontrager, Klein, Lemond and Fisher.

Like Asprilla said, I find them a bit dull.

How can a bike be 'dull'?

For a start they don't look very interesting.

Then there is the ride; it's very good. The rear triangle offers just the right amount of compliance to shield you from and vibrations bumps and bounces. It's like floating over the road on a magic carpet.

Sounds like bliss. But for me it's dull. You feel disconnected from the road and that removes a certain sense of urgency and involvement from riding one.

YMMV.

More expensive for what you get than a brand such as Giant but on a par with most big names.

But don't have the street cred of more niche or expensive brands.

I found for my money I couldn't get a bike with a standard crankset, they all came with compacts unless I went for the next model up in the range, I think that was the higher end 5 series which then started to blow into big bucks which I would rather spend on a different brand.

I ride a Trek 1.2.

I bought it second hand when I was getting into cycling so wasn't really bothered by the brand.

If I were buying new I'd look to Planet-X, Canyon and Ribble as these seem to offer the best value for money.

I've had two trek bikes. First one was stolen.

I currently have the 2010 Trek 1.2

I commute to work everyday and it's gotten me through 2 tours.

Only problem I've had with it was the shifters stop working and that was in December.

Other bike i would recommend would be the BMC cyclocross.
