I was looking at the GTX 770 but people kept saying get the R9 280x instead (I bought an R9 290 in the end).

Saying that though, if I hadn't decided to get the 290 I would have bought the GTX 770.

Looks good, though I would suggest changing the motherboard to this Gigabyte board. As it should cost about the same as the MSI Z87 G43, but the Gigabyte's 2nd main PCIE slot can run at full x8 PCIE 3.0 with two cards.

May I ask what RAM and case you will be using?

Yup, all good. I'd prefer to take the ATI 280X over the 770 though; newer tech, mantle and cheaper.

hm, one saying 770, the other saying 280x.

I was looking at a few benchmarks and the 770 came out on top only just for the majority of them, apart from BF4. However the amount of difference may not be worth the extra £.

Yep that was the confliction I had between the 2 cards. A friend of mine asked me to spec him a new PC and I did recommend the 280x as it was cheaper.

The case is a Corsair 200R ATX Mid Tower Case and the ram I've already purcashed is this

Also when do the weekly deals change?

Ah yes, totally missed the 200R there - nice case. Also, the RAM is grand.

The weekly deals change on Wednesday morning usually, so that gigabyte board should be at that price until then.

No idea :p

But, yeah, Wednesday morning they get updated

Oh lord, changed the question in the original post.

I'm not sure if he wants to OC the system, so would it be better for him to maybe get an i5-4570 with a cheaper MOBO to match?

Or will the 4670K be better for the future since it always has the possibility to OC?

I would really suggest sticking with the 4670K and Z87 as the ability to overclock is really valuable, even if not used immediately. It's basically an extra ~1GHz just waiting to be unleashed - which is just enough performance to be really worthwhile and potentially put off further upgrades.

Also, the second-hand value of overclockable parts is much higher than locked-down parts - which is useful to know for the long term.

Thanks for the help, only issue I have left is that with the 280x I'll have to buy a VGA -> HDMI adapter. Shouldn't be an issue though.

Unfortunately a HDMI to VGA adapter won't work. However, a cheap DVI-I to VGA apapter will work fine for one screen.

The 200R is a nice case, should happily fit in everything you plan to use.

What about the BitFenix one? This one might be better as the BitFenix doesn't have a USB 3.0 on the front. Zalman Z3

The bitfenix is a good case and one I usually recommend for budget systems. However, if you can afford the extra £20 then the Corsair is a better put together case with more options and an overall better design.

If I get the Corsair case I'd have to make the difference up else where, what about changing the Gigabyte Z87X-D3H £92 to this one MSI Z87M-G43 £72 or I could get the Gigabyte MOBO and drop the after market cooler for now, and pick one up at a later date when I'm ready to OC?

Buying the gigabyte mobo and sticking with the stock heatsink for a while sounds like your best bet.

This will give you a nice case, very effective motherboard with lots of features and a fast 3.4GHz quad core CPU. Then when you have the money together for the cooler you can install that (don't even need to remove the motherboard from the case) and get to some overclocking.

However, if you want to cut down on the messing about and just buy it all at once then going for the Bitfenix case is good option, it really is a great case considering the price - here is a review.

I guess I'm good whichever way I decide to go then. Just need to bloody decide, thanks for the help cmndr_andi :)

It's actually not newer tech all done and said :p

But I'd take the R9 280X over a 770.

Cheers Martin for you contribution. I think I'm gonna stick with the 280x.
