I imagine there a few people here in a similar boat to me who are currently on the one plan with a contract that is due to expire.

I currently have an S3 on The One Plan. 600 mins with unlimited data (inc unlimited tethering) and texts. My contract expires in a month.

The main selling point to me was the fact you get unlimited date with included tethering, this is due to change to maximum of 2GB should I upgrade my phone or alter my price plan.

I can:

A) Continue to pay £34 a month and buy a new phone if I wish to get a newer handset, continuing with the one plan and keeping my tethering.

B) Take out a new contract with there or another network.

C) Upgrade my current phone and be forced onto a new plan with a 2gb tethering limit.

I tether a lot with my phone, averaging around 15gb of mobile data of which around 9gb is from tethering.

Any recommendations / advice?

I think the limit is going to come into effect sooner rather than later for everybody, but that could be 3's confused marketing department who seem to spout contradicting information. Luckily got the new one plan in November and i think i'm going to let it run past the 12 months

It seems the sim only One Plan is unchanged and so tethering is still unlimited. I'd have thought the sim only one plan would be the way forward for the OP?

Anyway, it appears all sim only plans remain unchanged at Three. Confusion reigns :D

Aren't these recommendations both limited to 2gb tethering and therefore in no way solve the op's problem?

Nope

A) 2gb only applies to 24 month contracts with a phone
B) three are very good at not changing old contracts, so as long as you just leave it to toll over future changes shouldn't apply.

unchanged at Three. Confusion reigns :D

There really isn't any confusion.

Our SIM only plans remain unchanged.

To summarise our new 24 month Pay Monthly plans;
• Free 0800, 0808 and 0500 numbers
• 084* and 087* numbers just 5p per minute
• Texts alerts when you’re nearing your limit
• The ability to place spending caps
• Personal Hotspot functionality for all, but limited to 2GB if your plan includes All-You-Can-Eat data
• All-You-Can-Eat text messages
• A range of data allowances up to All-You-Can-Eat
• A range of minute allowances up to All-You-Can-Eat

Im glad i found this thread, im thinking of switching to 3 on a sim only deal, ideally im after the all you can eat data with 2gb personal hotspot limit (is that per month) ? not overly bothered about a lot of minutes so 200/300 would be fine and unlimited or a lot of texts

this seems fine:

http://store.three.co.uk/view/searchSimOnly?tariff=29150100

yet theres no mention at all of a 2gb allowance ?

but on one of their support pages here: it says "All our new Pay Monthly plans include Personal Hotspot" ?

But this deal has the add on option of 1gb for 5 quid a month when ordering ?

im confused, so does that Ultimate Internet SIM 200 1 month sim come with 2gb personal hotspot or not ?

Only the One Plan has free tethering.

All other sim only tariff do not have free tethering. You need to buy it as a add on.

Only new 24month contracts come with 2gb.
You either need the add on or the one plan for sim only.
