Got a few European flights this year, and I'm after a good suitcase/backpack to use which meets the hand luggage criteria.

Found this on the rainforest website:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cabin-Max-B...8&qid=1396355177&sr=8-1&keywords=hand+luggage

Gets good reviews, but it's basically just a cheap backpack, is there not something better for similar money? Ideally I want to buy from Amazon as I have a £25 voucher.

So spec me hand luggage OCUK!

Is this not all you need? If it's hand luggage, it doesn't need to be capable of surviving the hamfisted baggage morons at the airports so why waste money on something too specific?

I agree.

Although....one flight I was on, there was no room for my hand luggage and mine had to be put in the hold. It had my DSLR in it, so I was glad I got one that is strong enough for that.

I found recent hand luggage rules have been relaxed. Recent trip to france my hand luggage was probably well over 10Kgs and didn't fit anywhere near into the little frame they have.

I have that Cabin Max bag from Amazon, its been excellent with frequent RyanAir trips.

Seems to be ignored from putting into the cage, the gate staff only seem to target the hard wheeled cases.

I see all sorts of size for carry on, weight wise, it depends on the airline. BA has a very generous 23kg carry on weight limit.

My suit case yesterday weight 23.8kg and that was HEAVY, cannot imagine something about 1/4 of the size weighing the same.

Yeah, I could probably do with a new backpack too, after I left gorge walking gear in my old Karrimor for over 6 months! That bag is now truly ruined!

So if I could get a really good backpack for ~£25 that meets requirements for cabin luggage and also could second as a new backpack that would be ideal. The cabinmax isn't exactly trendy!

Just don't be one of these annoying people that brings a hand luggage bag on so big it should have gone in the hold :p

I'd have told them to sod off and move some daft bints pram or whatever was taking up so much room.

I remember once traveling for a gig though, refusing to put my bass in the hold I bought it a seat. Taking it through security they were going crazy like "You can't bring that through here it has to go in the hold" it took about 10 minutes of explaining before they would believe it had it's own seat on the plane :D

I've got that Cabin Max bag, it's been on numerous weekend trips and does the job admirably. As mentioned, not exactly trendy if you want to use it as a normal bag though.

"size printed onto the sides of the bag so staff know!"

BRB, getting a marker pen to go write pretend sizes on my 60 x 45 x 25 carry-on \o/

lol why the roll eyes. I think it's a good idea. :o

Personally, drop the idea of a suitcase, backpack it. If you are doing multiple flights. It's a waste of time checking in stuff.

I did Amsterdam, Stockholm and Munich in one week once around Oktoberfest (loved it!) and I am so glad I took my backpack.

I have always took my backpack, if you need anything (toiletries or stuff), buy out there!

The original thing you linked to is daft. Get something like this:

http://www.decathlon.co.uk/forclaz-60-trekking-backpack-brown-black-id_8172704.html

That is the exact one I have, it's heavy duty, tonnes of room and bloody reliable. It's been all over Europe, India and Asia... It's been thrown around on the top of mini buses across India (TINY buses), used as a pillow for hours on end waiting on flights. Nice seat when waiting for trains. Fairly waterproof in tropical storms, stuffed into over head compartments on planes with LOADS of room, much easier than those square suitcases people buy to stuff in there. Very handy if you are packing light and pick up stuff as it expands...

Simple really.

Yeah I'm after something like that, I would prefer a backpack to a solid case type thing on wheels.

But that one you linked wouldn't pass the easyjet/jet2 cabin luggage dimensions.

Just seemed a bit daft as a selling point considering how utterly meaningless it is as far as it being legit. It's hardly concrete evidence that the bag is within limits is it?

It will and does, I know, I've used it going to Ireland... At least with Aer Lingus.

Anyway, if you only have a few things, as long as you can squeeze it into their little bin thing then you're fine! Which, unless it's packed, you will be able to.

I have a hard ABS plastic wheely trolly thing but thats around the £30-40ish range.

Wheels ftw everytime.

That one you linked has wheels too right ?

Don't get me started on this. All the quick-hop European flights I've been on recently this has happened.

I've had the carbin crew ask me before "Sir, would you mind if you kept your bag by your seat during the flight."
Response is always the same. No. All I've got in the overhead bins is a small leather satchel with a 13" laptop in it. No coat. No handbag. And the bag they're trying to squeeze in IS LARGER THAN WHAT I'VE CHECKED IN TO THE HOLD. Capitalized as I always say it loudly :p.
I've even seen some people put their ridiculously massive bag into the overhead bins... and then walk back ten rows to their seat. FFS. And then when the people in the seats underneath the bag arrive there's no room for them. And that's not scum airways, that's on BA .
