Today I'm signing my new job contract. Everything has been agreed so there is not interview /test aspect. I wore a suit to my interview. Today will probably be signing contracts, see new offices, ask any questions about the new job.

I'm not sure if I should go with a suit or smart casual?

I'd suit up.

I tend to suit up for the first week or so and gradually move towards the 'norm' of the office.

There may not be any added value in doing it, but I wouldn't want to risk not doing it....if that makes sense.

Unless its a very casual place I'd be inclined to wear a suit for that and probably for your first day. After that its up to you... a friend of mine is a big advocate of wearing a suit at least once a week on random days - he reckons it helps with perception but also has the side effect that if you ever have an interview in future etc.. it doesn't look suspicious when you come in wearing a suit before popping out for your GP/dentist 'appointment'

Doesn't it depend on the role? You wouldn't want to turn up at a head office without a suit but equally you wouldn't turn up to a farm in a suit.

Suit up. Then get a feel for what the normal attire is. It's easier to take a jacket and tie off if you want to "relax" than it is to look under dressed. I'd do that for the first few days/weeks until you establish a feel for the place and what you feel is the right clothing to wear,. It also depends on your position.

At my work it's a relaxed clothing policy, most just wear a suit without a tie, and most wander around without a jacket.

I know this is a crazy idea but you could just ask what the dress code is?
I did this when I started my current job which meant I didn't end up rolling in in a full suit and tie when most of this lot just about manage a creased shirt and trousers.
