Seems a lot of people in the thread would much prefer the postie to drop a parcel in the house than just leave a card. Would be a shame if they stopped doing this because of complaints. Probably should leave the door locked if you don't want people coming in.I'd certainly send a complaint to them.

Not really, if a doors closed I'd expect someone to knock and wait to be invited in whether it's locked or not.
The OP could have been bare balls naked in the hallway "falling" arse first onto household objects suspiciously covered in condoms.
He probably knocked first, then made the judgement that someone who leaves their front door unlocked would prefer to have their parcel dropped inside than get a card through the door, before complaining about the postie not even knocking because they didn't hear him.
Would you rather he didn't deliver it?
He probably thought the door led to a porch.
I don't have time to **** around with redelivery or collection, I'd rather they made every effort to ensure I got the parcel .
I'd be complaining to both Amazon and the delivery company. I can't believe that people here are saying it would be acceptable to open someone's front door and drop a parcel off that way. I find it rather suspicious that he even tried the front door to see if it was open! General etiquette expects you to knock and wait to be acknowledged, not knock, wait, and then try the door to see if it's open. That's dodgy as hell!
I thought about it, but like I said I couldn't catch up with him.
He's a confident postie. Did he knock? At least this isn't a thread about 'Delivery man not trying hard enough to delivery my parcel'. I would say you haven't received it. You obviously didn't sign for it. See if he comes back with 'I walked into his house and left it there'.

Just for interest's sake:How would he make the judgement that the door is unlocked in the first place? The only way he'd likely know is to try the front door. Which begs the question as to why on earth a delivery driver is trying your front door to see if it's unlocked. That is totally unacceptable to be honest, regardless of whether people are leaving doors locked or unlocked. You can't have delivery drivers trying doors to see if they're open. That's just not on. And I simply can't believe that there are so many in this thread that think that this is ok.
Just for interest's sake:
Why exactly can't we have delivery men trying the door?
