What about an early 00's corsa? That's what I had, and as long as you don't get the 1.0 one which I had it'll pull just fine.

I don't vouch for an almera- the first gen are the second least safe NCAP tested car its also the most boring car in the entire universe. I'm sitting in mine now however thinking that it has never but broken down or let me down or had any faults at all really. So if reliability is a priority, the Almera at least has that!

Euro Ncaps don't tell the whole story. The N15 Almera is a mid 90's car so won't fair well with crash requirements, the Yaris for example is newer, but i can bet you that in a 30-40mph real life crash, the outcome will be the same.
The Yaris 1.3VVTi is the best in that list a few posts up, its fun to drive, reliable, well built, cheap to run and looks nice. I have a soft spot for the T-Sport version, really nice cars

Don't buy a 6 valve 9N Polo.
