A friend of mine will be coming into a sum of money in the very near future around about £60,000-£70,000. What's his best options for a long term investment with this amount of money? Real estate? Or should he be speaking to someone in investment banking?

I'd use some for a buy-to-let property (40k). Put some in real estate investment with Ingenious Media? (10-15k). Then use the rest towards mortgage repayment.

But it depends entirely on your mates situation as to what would be best

1/3 bank deposit, 1/3 state bonds, 1/3 stocks. Why pay an investment banker when you can pay yourself?

There's a real estate bubble in Southern England so I'd avoid that and the precious metal bubble burst not long ago so those won't be going anywhere for some time.

If someone invested 60k based on advice from an internet forum they are probably either:

a) Sitting on many more millions and doing it for a joke
b) Mental

If the money means anything to him then go with a financial adviser who will max out your mates ISA contribution and then probably put the rest in an OEIC or similar with a range of funds to match your friend's risk attitude.

If the money doesn't mean anything to him then by all means put it all on a horse and then put the winnings/remains on Dogecoins.

This post was merely trying to get pointed in the right direction, he obviously isn't going to invest an amount of money this large purely based on the advice from GD. There are some smart people on here, fishing for advice won't hurt.

Under the bed, safest place.

Safest place to lose money via inflation?

Id put 45k into a fund and 15k into the new ISA and play it on the stocks. Plenty money to make more and not a massive chunk if he should lose a certain %. If you do it right, it could make the other 45k look small in comparison.

Firstly you want to see how much you are paying for your debt (mortgages etc), with current interest rates, its quite likely paying them off will be your best - safe - investment

Before considering investment, does he have any high interest rate debt which would be wiser to clear first (if the rate of return on an investment is lower than the money paid out in interest it's not worth it).
