Sorry if its in the wrong place and I hope it doesn't break any rules but can someone point me in the right direction of where I can get a replacement motherboard for an old HP Pavilion dv9000 (RY686EA) cheaply that isn't involving having parts shipped over from the states via that damned online auction site?

Have been given the laptop and although I guess I could chop it for parts, I would prefer to get it working again :)

Totally ancient.... hence why I don't want to spend much on it, just figured it would be good to run ubuntu or to teach myself linux on....

This one came with vista installed, and before it died was comfortably running Windows 7 basic...

Not worth the effort unless you can get a working one for next to nothing from the MM or eBay.
Laptop motherboards and bits like that are like hens teeth and have a price to match if you can find them.

Ahh, fair dos. I would give you mine mate, but sadly it's ~200 miles away at the mo so can't really help! Always found that replacement motherboards can be a pig to get for EOL'd models.

I doubt there's going to be many if any places that stock old hardware parts as there's no money in it and even if there are you've also got the odds of finding the part you want. Think you're just going to have to bite the bullet and just get it from eBay which in all honesty is the best place to look for something as highly specific as this.

So not worth it :(

Anew mobo for a laptop is basically a new laptop.

Whats wrong with it ? maybe you dont need a new one ? Screen issue? Spill the beanz0rs !

It's the dreaded black screen of death the Pavilion laptops where noted for, I've looked into it and it requires a complete new board... Think I'll just lob it on the bay for parts, and see if I can make enough to get something that still works :)

Thank your lucky stars it wasn't the Lenovo I had the joy of taking apart a while back.

I lost the will to live on screw number 40.
