Just four weeks until I set off on our http://www.pedalsformedals.com/ adventure! Raising money for help for heroes.

Team of 6, split into 2 groups riding 4 hours on 4 hours off, from Manchester to Gibraltar!

Training has been going fine, I've been mixing it in with my current tri training so I have been doing shorter intervals as well as long rides.

If anyone thinks it's a worthy cause then you are welcome to donate. Rest assured there will be suffering and pain aplenty. :)

In other news my new wheels arrived for the TT bike :)

Oh my!

I'd love a disc wheel. Cant really justify it at the moment though - i dont do enough TTs.
Got my first 10 on saturday though, looking forward to dusting off the TT bike again :)

And today i'm still arguing with a (normally rational) friend on Facebook who says he struggles to sympathise with cycling deaths when he sees them jumping red lights around London :(

Attitudes like that are frightening given that it will inevitably influence behaviour on the road.

After 55 comments he still doesn't see the problem

Funnily enough it all started because he complained about a cyclist shouting because he and other pedestrians almost walked out in front of him crossing a road. Apparently the cyclist was overtaking stationary traffic on the outside which he thought was wrong because the cycle lane was free

We've pointed out the issues with his entre argument but he hasn't conceded a single point and says that myself and other cyclists defending this 'behaviour' is what leads to bad attitudes towards cyclists on the road

Cycle lanes are utter guff. I wish they'd get rid of them. The surface is horrible, they're full of crap, and all they do is narrow the road. Scrap them, widen the road, tarmac it properly from side to side, and I'll make do. It's that or we have properly segregated cycle paths.

Witnesses said the cyclist was caught under the front, I can only imagine they went up the inside of the Lorry and was in the blindside when the lorry turned. Cannot be too careful at junctions.

I was thinking the blue tent covers the body, which doesn't make sense for somebody being hit on the inside.

That's a bit too much of a generalisation. There are parts of Glasgow where the cycle lane is a complete hindrance, but other areas where they tend to function very well. I totally agree about segregated cycle paths though. They have a bit of that near the new velodrome here, and it's a joy to cycle on when the pedestrians aren't walking over it, and in fairness they rarely do. Ideally a bit of time should should be spent assessing the actual needs of each individual road, instead of simply throwing down a lick of paint and calling it a cycle lane.

Highly jealous of those wheels!!

Been looking at a disc myself, as my current tubs are 10sp and the cervelo is 11sp. Can't decide whether to get tubs again or just stick with clinchers though. Need to make a decision soon. Did you get a good deal on those?

that's why I'm confused.. but yes the blue tent is covering the body, before that tent was placed there was a black plastic bag thingy over it.. unlucky! RIP

Yep. Round our way they're patching the patches.

They have done a lot of pothole filling, but then the edges "fray" and they become a problem again. However, that bit between Lowton/Culcheth/Croft they have actually resurfaced large sections. THe main street leeading from Lowton directly to Culcheth is appalling (near the golf course and through to the Cherry Tree pub). Its the worst road round here by a long way.

Just used FillThatHole to report a particularly large and hazardous pothole near my house (the majority of the road surface has disappeared), only to find it was already reported.. in April 2013.

I have the utmost confidence it'll get fixed.
