MSI 290X Gaming Vs MSI 780Ti Gaming

I wouldn't imagine it will boost much higher than the 1120MHz they achieved without modding the bios, seen a few 780ti's clock well, but there is just as many that don't.

The 290's are screaming for moar voltage, throw Trixx at it, and with it's +200mV, it will go faster without invalidating the warranty.

I would be unhappy if a 780Ti did not hit 1200mhz and many hit 1250mhz and some hit 1300mhz all without mods, then add the 7-8GHZ Memory, all helps.

It depends what one you purchase, some can't hit 1150MHz, others can fly past it.

Another pointer on [H]'s oc results, powertune isn't working with AB, it's throttling(known bug), their stock XFX 290X on original Mantle drivers hit 55.8fps, oc'ed on todays driver it's 56fps, as I said throw Trixx at it for proper oc results and the story changes.

Precision and AB (inc Beta) still do not work 100% with Ti's so horses for courses.

The 780Ti is the faster GPU overall.

It isn't horses for courses, only adding +50mV is no where near reaching the maximum potential of the 290's, add throttling under AB-it's a car wreck regarding true performance data.

I'm under no illusion the 780ti is the daddy, that's what the 30%+ price premium gets you.:)

Sadly, they can only test with what is available to them. If something is broken in the drivers, that isn't something they can fix and I watched the throttling happening on a youtube vid and it wasn't bad throttling, They even mention that the 1150Mhz of the 780Ti (or whatever it was) throttled. They could have flashed a BIOS on the Ti to stop that though but again, that isn't a fair way of testing.

I honestly feel the 290X does very well compared to the 780Ti and although they said they couldn't get playable frames at 1600P on the 290X unlike the 780Ti, the 780Ti does carry a price premium.

Food for thought for anyone interested.

[H] crew is running a tech site as income, they know how to oc better than me, they can only hit 1130MHz max over 3 different 290X's without applying max voltage???

There is zero, I repeat zero chance that the [H] lads don't know you can apply +200MHz on Trixx-that's available to them and just as easy to download Trixx as it would have been AB.

I'm also highly sceptical that they don't know about the AB powerplay bug either, if it was driver related, Trixx and GpuTweak(presuming about GpuTweak without using it) would suffer the power limit bug but they don't, for example using the same settings, my Thief BM 85fps(Trixx) v's 78fps(AB) there is a 9% performance drop off right there.

Again, the 780ti is potent in it's own right and faster than a 290X-excluding Mantle, but skewed results are skewed results and not an indication of actual performance due to flawed testing.

Two excellent cards certainly but the real winners are anyone who bought the Sapphire 290 Tri-X for £299.99 today, that makes the 780Ti and the 290X look very poor value for money to be honest.

For me guys, the simple thing is get a 290 or a 780. I personally wouldnt go for a 290x or a 780ti. Im happy enough with a single 780 that isnt much of a clocker tbh. Plays my games at a good enough standard which im happy enough to do, yes it's nice to max game settings but i play online were lower settings really help. Saying that though, yes ill end up running sli 780 wf in my setup when second hand cards get cheaper. Current card looks so lonely in my new case.

Quoted for the truth.

I can see many reasons for the Ti or X and if that's what you want, go for it but sensible spending would buy a 290/780 and spend the rest on a night on the beer :D

Crysis 3, despite running higher clocks, the Gaming is 17% slower than a DCuII.

BF4, Gaming is 16% slower than the XFX.......

[H] fail to notice the discrepancies with their own data?

Or does it convince the naive?

The Tri-X deal has got to be the fastest gpu sold this year for £300.

Exactly, my local bar does a very good pint of guinness. But thats another story.:D Last week i came very close to buying a second gtx 780, probably a waste at 1920x1200. I bought a new case instead, my system looks good and im still fit to game at a good level with a nice cool running card. Yes ill add another wf 780 soon, providing my girl friend doesnt shoot me for spending too much more cash. The old excuse that it makes facebook run a bit quicker is stretched very thin now.:D

Customers who buy a GPU for its primary intended use, who benches all day anyway apart from geeks?

Who overclocks or plays games apart from Geeks man!! We are all Geeks and who cares!! I also train abit :) and do several martial arts to a decent level. Hardly geeky but always Xtreme!!
