Reality check please?

is the Sapphire Radeon R9 290 Tri-X the best value and performance for the price of £299?
if not what else is the best option (any flavour)?

It is to replace/upgrade a Sapphire 6950
With i5 2500k (slight OC to 4.2 overclock)
12 gb Corsair ram (1600)
PSU Corsair CX 600w

I am buying it in the hope that it will max out most games on single monitor at 1920x1080

Thanks
Jon

Im sitting here deciding that too. Similar setup to you aswell:
[email protected]
8gb Ram
670 SLI
Resolution 2560x1440

Im thinking of buying two, but I don't know if its a big jump from 670 SLI. Also I don't have any problem with any of my games at the moment.
I will be going to 4k in may when the Samsung monitor is in stock.

Corsair H80 watercooling kit. Very noob friendly, no problems great bit of kit.
Not sure on the bottlenecking front, you might be ok with one 290.

I think it could well be the best £300 card.

Simples.;)

(i think we deserve shares :D)

any profit you made would be invested back into computer parts and your shares would rise and the cycle would continue :P

Im running this card, got it back on their last deal for £320ish, its a beast and is running 1440p no problemo. Grabbed a 2nd one today on this deal because... well because >.< It won't dissapoint, it looks fantastic, sounds fantastic (in that its quiet) and it goes like crazy.

Its a long card though!

Oh yes, id spend it back at OCuk... they never warn you that PC's are more adictive than smack do they :D

I think loyalty card would be great ( OCuk ;) ) with clubcard OverClock points :D

I have measured and have 310 mm to fit the card into, so am hoping for a 5mm gap... other than this the hacksaw will be required (do OCuk sell the Asus ones? :))

At £300, it's a lot of bang for buck. You can't go wrong tbh. Then in a year or so pick a card from the new 20nm lineup. Also if you're planning on 4K at some point. I'm sure the 20nm cards will be much better at 4K. Getting the 290 Tri now would be a great option..

Thanks All

Picked it ip from OCuk today, although the weekend offer had ended they very nicely let me have it for the offer price :) and with a free bag of sweeties too....

Installed, and all seems to be workign quiet and well... or at least i have not seen my lad for the past 3 hours..... and i can hear no shouting...!

Thanks all

Glad your happy with the new card,

He is probably playing minecraft on it, Hence the no shouting, If he was on BF4 there would be shouting its such a frustrating game.
