Pc gaming on a tv

My pc room is fairly close to my lounge where I have a 48" TV. As I have recently been playing a lot of games which work best with a 360 pad, I recently bought a 10m hdmi cable to link my pc to the TV. I just wanted to share that it is bloody amazing! Have nearly always just been a pc gamer (though I got a wii u a couple of months ago), it was something of a revelation to me how much better the gaming experience can be sitting relaxed on the couch rather than hunched over a desk. There are obviously some games that will suit the desk better but games such as assassins creed, dark souls or driving games are much nicer on the couch.

Its good someone else has seen the light and isn't a desk and Keyboard and mouse extremist! Gaming on a control pad on a huge TV with good image quality whilst lying in bed or lounging on the sofa is quality.

Same Here, moved to TV + 360 pad and finished: witcher 2, Dead island coop, RE5/6 coop, Assassins creed 1/2/3, Borderlands 1 coop...ans dead space 1/2/3...many more...
However games like BF and some other multiplayer fps/ RTS way better with mouse+kb

I agree 100% any online game with PvP you need a mouse. Single player with the best graphics you can get laying on your sofa is unmatched. I use a rocking chair with a foot rest and I lay right back and love it :)

Buy a console then, at least all FOV's will be correct in games for that distance.

1080p on a bigger screen is not going to be as nice as a good monitor and more lag and I bet most sit that far away it does not even matter if its HD or SD.

Whatever floats your boat though.

Yeah, no.

My tv is not good enough to have a decent picture, acceptable at best in some games, so I still game on the little screen. Gaming on a good tv is sweet and nothing wrong with pads in a lot of games.

I was using a 40" HDTV as my center monitor between two 24" monitors and it was awesome for Eyefinity.

I really wish I bought 3 40" HDTV's instead of these 24" monitors I have, really miss the TV but sadly, it's on the wall in one of the living rooms. :)

I wouldn't use a GamePad though. :/

Been gaming that way on PC gamepad titles since 2006 nothing else comes close to the vast scale/immersion on a decent PC with max gfx.

Right now using a 60" plasma (started with a 40" LCD HDTV) playing Batman Arkham Origins Blackgate (2.5D game) which looks okish for a digital only title. Input lag is not a problem either for SP games but MP its not really suitable for SP PC gaming its the way to go especially as HDTV's are so cheap.

You can pick up a decent 40-50" Plasma for around £350-500 with stunning PQ its the way to go as 21:9 displays are too niche & you would need a massive size to match a 16:9 display due to the lack of vertical height.

However, its not really suitable for general PC use or web surfing so I have another PC & a traditional 16:10 PC monitor for that.

I have a G2420HDBL Benq monitor, I dunno maybe it is rubbish but my TV which is quite expensive has nicer colours imo.

i use a samsung es8000 46" tv as a monitor, nom :D

sat on my desk atm, and god its huge. Going to be wall mounting it and not using it on my pc though (only temp atm) but the size for playing bf4 etc is amazing!

Do what I did if you got a 360 wireless pad, get the wireless receiver and relax in bed with the 42" of goodness, had a nice Borderlands 2 session the other night.

used to do this with wow xD move the mouse and keybaord over to the sofa and then sit my arse down and play on the 40" with the surround sound :D was very nice :p

but yeah, for FPS it's gotta be on the desk or you don't stand a chance xD

Just got rid of my ASUS 1440p and desk, moved to an mitx system and now gaming on our new 42" Sony Bravia sat in a big comfy chair, it's brill! :).

Don't really understand the 'hunched over a desk' thing. A decent computer chair is just as comfortable as a sofa really.

I can understand the appeal of playing on a TV sat on the sofa, but it depends on what TV you have, and what monitor you have. Personally I prefer to be playing my PC games @120fps/120hz on my monitor. Even though my TV has better colours and blacks, and slightly higher res (1920x1080 vs 1680x1050 on the monitor) the extra smoothness of 120fps/120hz is more important to me.
