*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S5 Thread ***

I can't believe how dead this thread is! :p

I think when people actually try the S5 they'll like it, it seemed a good step up from the S4 to me and felt nice in the hand.

Think the M8 is slicker though, overall...

I am not surprised. The GS2 (maybe the GS1 as it was the first) is still, IMO, the best Galaxy phone. Every phone since has been evolutionary, some with less impact. I love my GS4 but after playing with the GS5 yesterday, I see no point in upgrading to it despite being usually the type of person that would be desperate to do so. The screen was fantastic! Even over the M8 which my house mate owns. It stops there though as I don't use any of the gimmicky features on the GS4 so won't be needing a heart rate monitor. And it looks all but certain a new premium Galaxy is due (QHD, 805 SoC and 3GB of RAM) in the coming months.

Same, I really want the M8, though I can't see a reason to get the S5 over it.

Reckon there's any point in waiting a little longer to see what else comes out?

To continue from my earlier post; I think we are at a parity whereby if you get either the Z2, M8 or S5 you won't be disappointed. All are very good phones in their own right (just took Sony a few years to catch up ;)).

Still undecided?

The S5 doesn't seem bad compared to the M8, but the construction pales in comparison.

Main reasons to get the S5:

Waterproofing
More detailed camera (on the phone itself the pictures will look similar)
4k more detailed video

The fingerprint scanner implementation seems questionable at the moment and the heart rate sensor is gimmicky.

To put a positive spin on the M8 camera, some of the examples of the depth of field effect look quite cool, which is nice for a phone camera, and of course the front camera on the M8 is a lot better than the S5.

The Z2 is nice too, but I've tried the Z1 quite a bit and it feels awkward and I'm not really a fan.

It certainly compares but it depends what you want. I wouldn't bother waiting for anything really.

Still undecided?

I'm 90% decided on the M8, but I'm going to try out the S5 again later, just to be sure. I think you'll like either and I think they're nicer than the S4!

Had a good ten minutes comparing the S5 and M8. The S5 seems great too but the M8 does seem a nicer phone for the most part.

I quite like the design of the S5 and the front and back are nice, but the sides feel horrible, really cheap and nasty compared to the rest of it.

I wouldn't be unhappy if I had to have one instead of the M8, but I prefer the M8 myself.

Did you try an S5? What didn't you like about the M8?

Yes and I like what I’ve seen. As to the M8, I don’t like the curved edges on the back, the look and feel of it. The S5 is on my limit for smartphone size/weight so S5 it will be.

That's fair enough. The S5 is a lot nicer than the S4 so I think it's a worthwhile upgrade.

Had a hands on with one of these today, its actually a lot better in person. The back is a big improvement on the shiny plastic used on the S3 and S4.

Pretty sure i'm going to be getting one of these now just got to decide which network to go with.

EE 24m £42.99 10GB data, unlimited texts & calls £9.99 handset price. £1032 total price -£100 through Quidco. £932 total.

3 (upgrade) 24m £40, Unlimited data (2gb tethering), 600 mins & unlimited texts. £960 total.

Buying it out right is an option but the costs over two years work out roughly the same.

For two years on the sim only "one plan" plus the sim free phone comes to around £1040
