Radio advertising

Local paper last time I checked was around £100 for a credit card sized add so that put me off as it seemed poor value

Although it won't be one of our papers, so I can't comment on price with any authority, I reckon that's fairly flexible (I know our regulars don't pay anywhere near ratecard). Maybe ring them up and say you'd like to give it a try, don't want to spend too much on something new etc, see if they have any links to a decent directory website that they could throw in, all with the promise of a long term booking. They want advertisers who book regularly/long term so they might do something for you to get you started so you can see what value you'd get.

If it's anything like our place, the sales people have total control over the pricing (and I mean that if they felt like it they could give it to you for a tenner, but obviously wouldn't unless they had a good reason to). Little to no supervision on what price an ad gets booked in at. See how far you get, maybe try a few salespeople and look for a weak one (just hope they don't figure that out or they'll brick wall you).

What kind of profit do you get from a job/sale? How many would you need to get a good return on your ad? Use that to negotiate a price if you can.
