30-40 miles (kind of) everyday, for over 2 miles constantly up the hill (with this wind its a great workout :D).

Question: Where do you guys buy your gear? At local sport shops or online?

Get most of mine from Wiggle. Big fan of Gore and Sportful stuff

Guys, does anyone know what's going on here? I've just changed my brake pads and the new ones aren't parallel with the rim. I think the wear on the old pads had masked the problem, because they had become parallel over time if that makes sense.

The left pad is too far toe-in and the right pad is too far toe-out. These photos show it best:

Have I got a bent caliper? I've checked the wheel spins true, which it does. The quick release bolts are the right tightness.

The brake mounting bolt is tight and secure. I've tried tightening the brake pads in different positions to see if that makes any difference and it doesn't.

The front brakes are perfect, with very slight toe-in.

Don't try loosening the pad bolt and pulling the brake on then tightening the pad again.

Loosen the pad and slide the pad forward for the one that is toe out. Slide the pad back for the toe on one.

A wee bit of toe in is good though, if the caliper and lever allow for the extra sponginess.

Got an email from Halfords today, promoting the new JAWBONE

Anyone heard of these before?

works with Strava

https://jawbone.com/up

That sounds pretty interesting. A bit steep for the bluetooth one but it'd be really interesting.

edit: I assumed it tracks more than it actually does. It sounds kind of pointless :/

Also, 272 miles this week. My new highest. I was really tempted to try to hit 50 today but spent the afternoon supporting a friend running in the Manchester marathon instead. Then rode home in the rain, pah :p

10 miles into an 80 mile sportive and my rear derailleur decided to eat itself. **** **** ****.

No signal anywhere so I eventually got back to the van two hours later in the drenching rain! Really annoying, I was feeling really good and it was a proper man vs nature thing, bleh.

Tried on a pair of the new Giro Empire shoes today.. so comfy and look bloody great IMO.

They look kinda cool, although remind me of Primary school black school pumps for PE for some reason. :D

Funnily enough i was looking at shoes (online) today, my 2nd hand DHB R1 shoes are 18 months old and fine but the heel has worn down and is starting to wear through the body of the shoe a bit. I dont think the heels are changeable on these, doesnt look like it anyway.

Like the look of these though;

Anyone have any Sidi's? If so what is the sizing like in general? I'm a UK9 in normal shoes/trainers, although my DHB's are 44 but sometimes feel i could have done with the 43 or 43.5.

Don't the pad holders come with a slightly domed washer so you can adjust the toe in/out?

Cheers guys. The washers are flat so there's no apparent adjustment to be had anywhere.

I tried sliding the pads backwards, forwards, up and down, I even swapped them over just to see. No matter what I did they were still toe-in on the left and toe-out on the right.

Do I need to buy a domed washer do you think, or do I have a bigger problem?

Edit: looking around at 105 brake calipers, mine seem to be missing the inner washer:

Maybe I'll hunt for some and see if that fixes it!

Remove the block from the caliper, the metal spindle should move in a small circle like a universal joint.

If this isn't the case, get a set of blocks that do.

Cheers. There is a spindle on the nut for the bolt that goes through the brake block, but it looks flat and moving it seems to make no difference.

well in theory it should be alright :) i always leave mine a bit toe-in.

just press the brake to the max and see if the pad flattens out.

the only BAD thing about it is that your pads won't wear evenly on light breaking but otherwise I wouldn't worry too much.

also did you replace JUST the pad or did you also replace the housing?

on another note..

I will want to upgrade my groupset to sram apex/rival by august.

now I was thinking, should I just pick a new bike for ~300-400 notes extra or buy a new groupo for £400-£500?!

I could get this -;

https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/CBSABCLARIV/sab-classico-sram-rival-alloy-road-bike

or -;

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._productId_991994_langId_-1_categoryId_165710

or upgrade my triban..

now what I need to upgrade -;

groupset(bb, crankset, shifters, cassette, front/rear derailleurs, brakes)
saddle

now there's a problem with the frame, the BB thread is a bit damaged and needs quite a bit of force to get the bb to screw in and with bb30 type/external BB's I have a feeling that the tool will fail to provide enough leverage..

now don't get me wrong I love my bike even tho it is a cheapo triban 3 and it just feels just right for me but logically thinking I think it's about time to replace it..

I won't keep it once replaced and will probably manage to sell it for ~£250 due to extra kit(campy wheels, sram brakes etc)

so total expenditure will end up around the same after the sale.. ERM hard to decide..

I'm a very normal size 10 and wear size 46 Sidis which fit great.
