AAAGGGHH... which one now??!!

The lightning 780 is a brilliant card. The cooler keeps temps low and is surprisingly quiet even at higher settings.

780 are in general brilliant cards, and nvidia offers a 'smoother' gaming experience, from frame rate to simplicity. I miss my lightning a great deal.

Which reminds me I still need to sell it :(

i've got the R9 290 overclock to 1073mhz and on firestrike it come out higher than the titan, also it has the VTX3D cooler on and the temps are great the card is also very quiet for what it is so if there was a choice i'd deffo go for a 290 for the price compared to a 780 :)

Jesus, here we go again. To the op, buy whatever you consider to be the best graphics card you can afford. Base your decision on facts not opinions of obvious fanboys. Unfortunately these days when you ask such questions on the graphics forum you end up with what you see here. You cannot go wrong with either the 780 or the R290, they are close enough, performance wise, to not matter. Price wise you will pay more for Nvidia, I don't know why, I don't think its worth it but its what you think that counts, its your money. Forget about black screens or other problems that are insignificant on the scale of things, base your decisions on what you need. Looking at your list of future games you should be favouring Nvidia, if you put any weight in the features listed for them, PhysX etc. Good luck and choose wisely. :)

I sort of agree with you and I don't, what you've said is logical and the path I follow is similar to what you describe, I'm not sure if there are so many fanboys as people seem to think though, some NVidia users here are just giving their personal experiences with previous ownership of AMD cards, you can't call these people fanboys if they've had bad experiences with a certain vendor and point out those experiences. I would feel a little peeved if I had problems similar to other AMD users and would loose a little faith in that particular vendor.

Personally I have chosen Nvidia because it suits my needs at this moment and I would point out the pros and cons to the best of my knowledge to anyone enquiring what card to choose, this does not make me a fanboy and I believe those who use the term are probably die hard fanboys themselves pretending to be otherwise. It's no secret I absolutely love 3Dvision which makes me choose NVidia at the moment but this could change and I would change vendors at the drop of a hat if it offered what I wanted. To be honest I'm pretty sick of people who seem to have required a sixth sense and accuse people of being obvious fanboys, a term created by true fanboys but I think they are far and few between as most people will make their choice to suit their particular needs and or budget.

I have owned AMD and Nvidia and believe both offer something of value, it's personal choice and anyone who points out any advantages of a particular vendor should be able to do so without silly fanboy remarks, you have yourself stated you don't think it's worth paying the extra for Nvidia, that is your opinion and I respect it and don't believe that makes you an AMD fanboy. I prefere 3D vision and PhysX and am willing to pay a little extra for those features at this moment. If you think about it though, most people who post on these forums are just giving their preferences and personal experiences which could change over time with changes to a particular product and I'm sick of those who accuse someone of being a fanboy just because they are passionate about what features are important to them.

Nothing wrong with being passionate sir, nothing at all. But the forum you are describing is not the graphics card section we have now. Now sir, the difference between you, me and others and 'fanboys' is that I will not rubbish either sides cards as seems to happen on here too frequently. I like Nvidia cards but why are they more expensive than Amd equivilents at the moment. Nvidia fans will say, better build quality and that may be true of some reference cards but not, for the most part, later cards like Msi, Asus, Gigabyte and Sapphire 290's. Take my own Msi R9 290 Gaming for instance, I have been buying graphics cards for going on 30yrs and this one is without doubt one of the finest I have owned, including many Nvidia cards. I am often bound by budget and at the moment, as I have pointed out before, the R290 is up to £200 cheaper than a 780Ti. I cannot justify that price difference with the performance difference at all. As for accusing people of being 'fanboys' and your ascertaining that makes me one, well sir I invite you to look at all my posts and I am certain the only criticism of Nvidia cards by me will relate to price for performance and if anyone wishes to swop their 780Ti for my 290 I'm more than happy to do so. By the way you don't have to look hard to see several posts on the go right now where one of our members is having problems with his computer and the 'fanboys' advice is to get rid of your amd crap cards and buy Nvidia and that will magically fix his computer. Thankfully he has the good sense to try and find out what the problem is first before jumping to conclusions. That is the sort of stuff which gets up my hump and there is no place for it on this enthusiasts forum. To finish I just have to say both camps are guilty of the 'fanboy stuff'. :)

Respect ;)

@ Texan and Roly, both some good points fellas and I seriously don't get the need to attack the opposition either. I want every PC gamer to play games with zero problems. The point about one being better than the other does have validation for me. I would seriously miss PhysX and ShadowPlay, just as someone would miss Mantle/TrueAudio from AMD, so for me, nVidia is better than AMD.

Cannot miss what is not out yet though, correct?

Agree, I have been quite critical of Amd and the time it is taking to get WHQL drivers out for mantle etc. Whether that's justified or not I don't know. Anyhow hope these new drivers due from Nvidia are excellent as we need both companies pushing each other to better products, which in turn is better for us all. :)
