Hello,

I'm thinking about buying a Mondeo Zetec-S 2.5L V6, what say you?

You'll probably be saying 'just get a ST220' but for me, the insurance is double the cost. The 2.5 V6 seems worth the slight increase in running costs over the 2.0 4-pot. I've done some research and the things to look out for seem to be regular oil changes and looked after cooling system.

I've been driving slow cars for 5 years now and I want something with a little power but not too heavy on the wallet, if I didn't have kids I'd get a Honda Prelude or something.

They're alriggt, not got much in the way of go tbh though
3.0 v6 is much better, fairly rare outside of st trim tho

Also, Zetec-S? Get a Titanium X or don't bother. There are so many Mondeos out there it doesn't make any sense not to get the top trim level.

The fuel seems to be the only significant running cost increase, I don't do a lot of miles at the moment so it doesn't worry me too much, most of my journeys are around town so MPG would be rubbish in any car, unless there's something I'm missing?

Also, I'm talking early 2000s, budget is around £1500 and Zetec-S is an ok trim. I could get a 2.5L in Ghia X trim but to be honest the body kit on the S tips the scale for me :D

I just don't know why you'd want one? Not quick, not particularly luxurious, big car etc but you just want to run round town in it? The boggo 2.5 v6 is just an OK car, its no better ( nor will it feel quicker for your use) than the 2 litre.

Its certainly not a desirable car though £1500 will at least buy you an reasonable one. The again even something like an st170 would be better IMO

It does, however, look good - the bodykit is nice. It was mainly only offered on the V6 and the TDCi 130 and you wouldnt want one of those which leaves only the V6.

There was a chap at work offering one v cheap recently. Think he wanted £560. Odd price, but it only had 1 key (replacements appear to cost about £100), needed new front tyres, had a minor dent in the rear left panel (no paint damage, I recon it would have pulled out) and the front left wheel was leaking air.

It had 2 previous owners, 52 plate, 74k, full ford service history. I was almost tempted. Tax and MOT until August.

We had one, it drinks fuel (20-23mpg if you're lucky ) get the saloon, looks better, it was a nice car and reliable..we had it for 10 years from new. Goes through front tyres like a demon though.

I had a Ghia X for quite a while and absolutely loved it. Not fast, but nippy enough.

I didn't find the fuel consumption as bad as has been mentioned, getting high 20's in general mixed use, and it was not expensive to maintain, although not much went wrong. I could leave it for a month, just jump in and turn the key, and I was very sad to see it go when I sold it with 150K miles under it's belt.
