Guys,
I was hoping someone could help me with the following error I keep getting: -

Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered

I only seem to get this error when I am watching movies or tv through XBMC. My games seem fine.

I am not sure what is the solution to this problem but it may help to check if it has something to do with changing clocks or changing graphics card states.

Are your graphics cards overclocked or not? If yes, does this problem reoccur at stock clocks?

Does one/both GPU change clocks speeds when playing back media?

This is where I would be looking if I had this problem myself.

My cards aren't overclocked when this happens. It's strange how I only get the error with the mantle drivers. I may have to submit a bug report to AMD.

I only ever this when Overclocking and changing Voltage. With you saying you dont Overclock are the cards Pre-Overclocked versions? Like come with an OC for you?

If so maybe install MSI Afterburner and put a tiny increase on the Voltage and see.

I had to revert to 13.12 because these drivers kept giving me BSODs.

I have had this two, maybe three times since 14.3 when watching youtube in firefox.

Drivers are great otherwise so I haven't bothered doing anything about it.

I am still getting this issue with the new 14.4 drivers. Its only when watching tv or movies though.

If its of help one of my r9 270x used to undervolt when watching any form of media. I put a ticket in about it in january, for the only reason it used to cause a lockup on my pc. It was never a major problem as it was a spare pc and only really used for gaming when one of my daughters popped round.

Not sure when it stopped doing this but im on beta 14.2's still and just checking now it no longer undervolts when watching media.

Download GPU-z then click the sensor tab check starting voltages then fire up media player or you tube see if either of them lower.
If im honest at the time when playing around overclocking mine i seem to remember also if you touch the memory and push over 1400 even by one "1" the VDDC rises.
What im saying is i cant think now if i was seeing this with memory over 1400 and playing media made it jump down too low or if it done it at stock.

I have just looked and now neither are making the card down volt so i think maybe something was changed at driver level at some point in time since january. I certainly havnt flashed the bios on the graphics card as its hardly used.

If it is doing this then maybe you may still have old driver clutter interfering with your newer drivers.

The card i first noticed it on was an MSI gaming, it also done it on another model which for the life of me i cant remember as its now in my brothers machine and he hasnt mentioned anything so i assume all is ok. If its important i will find out.

Okay I think I may have found the problem. I was monitoring my gpu's when I had xbmc running watching tv. At the time the drivers crashed the gpu core clock went down from 1010MHz to 501MHz and this was the only time it did this. The VDDC also went down from the average of 1.096v to 0.936v again the only time this changed was when the drivers crashed.

This is clearly the issue.

How do I resolve this?

I just checked again and mine no longer does this, as i havnt changed the bios or anything on that card i would assume that stopped in a driver update. I would use a program to fully remove the driver remnants reboot and reinstall. As to which driver cleaner to use i dont really know bud i havnt had to use one i always seem to be lucky to uninstall normally and reinstalls go ok. Im on Beta 14.2's still if thats of some help i know the official 14's are out maybe worth a try with those, but i know the 14.2's dont do it.
Hope you get it sorted if it doesnt maybe contact the manufacturer of your card and describe what you have been seeing.
