alritey guys. needing some 215/55/16 rubber for the mondeo.

looking for something of decent quality a decent brand and extremely long lived and hard wearing (its a taxi for those who don't know) covering around 10k a month

ideally sub £100 a corner would be grand

I always found Michelin lasted longer than any other brand of tyres for me, i once got 47k out of a set on my Ford Focus. Cant remember the model it was whatever came with the car brand new.

annoyingly the one tyre i would care not a jot for price isn't available in this size except in the us (pilot sport 3) currently humming and hawing between uniroyal rainsports or conti premium contact 5s

I have the premium contact 5s on the back, Uniroyal Rainsport 3s on the front.
Both are excellent, I ended up with Uniroyal's as they were £30 cheaper per tyre than the continentals. Its a stupidly.expensive size.

it certainly is, even mid range stuff is north of £100 a corner fitted,

going to call my tyre guy in the morning for pricing for primacy 3s p7s and contis and see what he can do

Yep, I think the Uniroyals are a very good balance, and i paid around £75 each fitted. Bought them online as the garage couldnt get them for less than £100, but only charged £5 per tyre to fit.

I was asked by the lease company to put Primacys on my 320d when I changed tyres last. They're a different size to yours and run flats, but they certainly do last well. 28k miles on this set so far, still ~4mm tread on the rears and ~5mm on the fronts. By contrast the Bridgestone run flats that were on the car new (and first replacement) were finished (front and rear) in 25k miles.

I'd recommend contipremiumcontacts.
Do they make EcoContacts in that size? Might be an idea for a taxi..

Change to 205/55/R16? Can probably do that on the same wheels but don't quote me, it's far cheaper than 215/55 R16.

Worth looking into.. My car can take either 205 or 215 according to the manual, much more choice, and cheaper.

that's what my tyre guy suggested to me today after going through some options, not a lot of decent rubber at anything approaching sensible prices in 215/55

I have a set of Mondeo 5 stud steel wheels with 205/55/16 winter tyres on for my Focus -

Seemed ok to me,

Dave

ended up going 205/55/16 seem fine

uniroyal rainsport 3s

pair of fitted and tracking done for £140
