So, after multiple threads on this forum (Thread 1 and Thread 2) I have now decided on an Audi A6.

I test drove the A4, A5 and A6 on Saturday and the A6 was by far the best.

The car costs £25,000 (second hand) and I plan to buy it from an Audi dealership. I am leaning towards finance, but may go for full amount if the price is right.

Being a dealership how much room for negotiation do I have? This is my first car purchase, so I don't have a clue what the norm is here.

What model / age / mileage are you looking at?

It all comes down to how well the car is priced and how eager the dealership are to sell it.

also it will depend on how much the dealer has in the car, might be as much as 20% might be as little as 5% depends on what costs were needed to bring it up to standard

more likely to get money off with finance as they will make it back on the apr/loan

Maybe he doesn't feel like spending an extra £20k to own the car at the end of 3 years? :p

Haha. The second hand cars I am looking at with finance come to about £28k to fully own it after 3 years. Initial talks were with a £5k deposit, but I am thinking of increasing it to £10k.

I will keep the car for at least 6 years, so will want to own it afterwards.

Audi A6 S-Line
2.0 Litre 177PS
1 Year Old (2013)
< 15,000 Miles

Prices are ~£25k

This is absolutely not a recommendation to buy a brand new A6, but I don't think I could bring myself to spend £25k on a 12 months old A6 when I could have a new one for £1,746 more:

I personally don't think it makes any sense to spend £25k on something like the car above, and stipulating <15k miles makes even less sense. I bought my 18 month old A6 S-Line 177 with 40k on the clock for £19,500 with extended warranty and 3 years servicing included. The previous owner drove 100 miles to work and back each day with just him in the car.

In terms of finance, it's worth noting that if you take out the Audi Finance then exercise your right to withdraw within a month and pay it off with a bank loan you should be able to get 3 years free servicing and borrow interest free for the first month

Why are A6's so much cheaper than the 5 Series :(

There does seem to be a clear difference. I could get far less car in terms of age/mileage for my money when I looked at the 5 series

Indeed, your budget would buy a 3-4 year old 5 Series instead. I think you need to really love the 5 for that to make sense.

Unfortunately I really love the 5.
