Hello everyone, I am off to the USA around mid August to take part in a study abroad programme as part of my university for 1 year and it has been bugging me really bad lately if I should take my computer with me :(

I know it sounds weird and many friends and family are suggesting that I would be too preoccupied to even use my pc :P But pc gaming is a big thing to me and I couldn't imagine a year with out it :D

I was just wondering how much it will roughly cost to ship it to the USA and if there will be any trouble involved regarding power etc.

Another question is, will I still be able to play bf4 and wow or will there be major lag issues?

However, a second thought is for me to buy a ps4 out there as it will be a lot less hassle. But this will be my very last resort :D

Thanks and any advice will be appreciated :D

Leave it at home, the shipping will be massive, it may get a good kicking before it arrives and you would have to make sure your PSU can switch to 110V too.

Go out there have fun and if you really need too buy a PS4 over there for a quick fix, it will probably end up costing you the $ price for shipping your rig, and you get to bring it home. Don't forget you would have to ship your rig home as well.

This sounds sensible.
Also something about American girls loving a British accent, so toff up!

I am studying Accounting with maths and economics at West Virginia.

I wouldn't exactly call myself a boring person as I really do enjoy my gaming [I value my alone time :) ]. Even though the university I am attending has been voted the number 1 party school in the USA I still feel that I would enjoy having my pc around for now and then!

After looking into shipping costs it seems it could cost me 350 there and 350 back :/ Don't fancy spending 700 in total and even though I hate console gaming im better off buying a ps4 for 250 pounds!

It just seems too much hassle and like some of you have suggested I am better off selling the pc now and saving the money so in a years time I could purchase a better system when I return. Its a shame as it was only last week I bought a 780 and a 144hz screen!

But thanks for the advice guys...I will have to make do without my other half for a year :(

It's a waste of money taking it. And likely to get damaged. And 110W might be an issue.

Buy a laptop once you get there but just make sure that it won't blow up when you charge it up back in the UK :)

I'd say leave the desktop at home, but take the portables with you (Tablet/Ultrabook/Laptop).

If get bored half way through whilst there you could build yourself a new rig anyways. Hardware is cheaper in the states, and it would only be the case that you'd have trouble getting back - the components could easily go inside your baggage with clothes as padding.
