New Rental address blacklisted

Hi, my friend tried to get a new mobile contract with a different provider today, only to be told she can't have it the address is blacklisted she's only been there a few months.

shes got a good credit history and no debts up to date with all her bills, it seems the scumbag previous tenant has left a shed load of debt connected to this address, some letters have come for them but got no idea of a forwarding address.

shes opened them and there all from debt collection agency's there is a few debts involved one over 10k.

previous tenant was around about a month ago, asking a neighbor to get my friend to sign for any parcel that gets delivered to the address by mistake and phone her, like that's going to happen i told her to pass on her number to the debt collectors but she's since binned the number.

anyone been through this knows how to sort this out ?

Didn't think an address can be blacklisted.

It may be whilst the companies acknowledge they no longer live there it may be a problem.
 
I would contact Experian or whatever credit referencing agency are involved and explain to them you are a new tenant.

As maccapacca said, properties are not blacklisted anymore like they used to be.
 
Companies can have their own lists, separate to those of Experian, and can refuse your custom for almost any reason.

Experian won't do anything for his poor grammar. Oh wait...
 
Addresses are not blacklisted on things such as experian... but separate companies will and do black list addresses and its almost impossible to get anywhere with it. The customer services will not do anything if the "computer says no" and will not help you to clear it up usually... in fact you tend to get more letters show up!

Best thing to do is forget about it and avoid applying for credit until you get a better address. Any mail for previous tennants just put back in the post box with ( not known at this address ) on it and make sure to keep all doors and windows locked and keep a proof of youre tennancy and copy or original ID close to hand in case any debt collectors call round. If they do and attempt to get in call the police.

Well, she wants to stop doing that for a start as it's illegal to open mail addressed to someone else without their knowledge!

ok thanks mate will pass advice on, the bloke in the shop said he didn't know why at first and then said it was the address probably standard practice to get people out of the shop :D
 
my address has loads of debt the last tenant ran off and left behind.
I've had no problem getting credit because it's not based on the address it's based on ME and MY previous addresses for the last 7 years

does it even matter? I had virgin installed before I even moved in here and they said I had a perfect credit rating, the address was irrelevant it's not the address paying them

Ok i asked her says she does not know had no voting cards or that the council letter you send back to confirm who lives there, so sounds like definitely not.

well aye she took over the phone line in new place and had bt infinity installed new 18 month contract no problems, but then gets knocked by mobile company.

but she was with bt at old place so down as a previous good customer maybe.
 
In the early 00s I decided to have a new toy on credit after at least a decade and was refused. I went to another shop and was refused again so contacted the loan company who said my address/name was on a blacklist.
Mrs Dimple then dealt with it and lets say my surname is Poole and we live at 65 James Street, the blacklist was for a Poole at 7 James Street but it was close enough for us not to get credit.
Anyway, after proving we weren't the Poole's at 7 James Street we were given credit again.

cheers will pass advice on she not want to move though it's social housing and she waited along time to get it, and she loves it there.

feel sorry for her tbh done bugger all wrong not like she wanted a 500 quid phone, just a sim only contract deal. worrying for her though if this could be a on going problem getting credit if she ever needs to in the future.
 
They dont blacklist addresses only people. ;)

She is just not on the electoral roll yet, get her to ring the council and sort that.

Then tell her to use credit expert when she on the electrol roll, job done. :D

You cannot blacklist an address only the named occupant. ;)

Anything else you hear is bull. :)
 
I had this issue with Orange, my address was blacklisted because the previous tenant did not pay his orange contract, it was only at Orange as since then I have had contracts with O2, Vodafone and 3, Orange told me I had to write to their head office for the address to be taken off the black list, I didn't bother and just won't get an Orange contract.
