Mrs phoned really upset. Her car was parked in a public car park and her colleague noticed a man walking around it. He asked her what he was doing and he remained silent and walked off.

Colleague went into the office and told my Mrs someone suspicious was walking around her car. She went out to investigate and there's two long scratches on either side of the car

Her colleague said it was the man who owns a shop on the same street but no idea why he was circling her car??? She immediately phoned the police and went to confront him at his shop, he denied it. His wife though went out to look at the damage, and from what her reaction was my wife knows it was him.

Cops have taken version of events. The case is strong in our favour because:

1. Colleague and his sister saw him walking around the car
2. Colleagues car also got scratched at the same time
3. Later when cops questioned him he said "peoples cars are always getting scratched/broken into in this car park".He said he was walking around my wifes car purely to see the damage that was done, he got told about it by a delivery driver dropping goods of at his shop. (why the **** would anyone say "oh by the way there's a scratched car in that car park" and also why the **** would you go out and look! Got nothing better to do!?)

So cops have taken both sides story. What can happen now? His story is really week and surely he get found guilty.

Sadly I don't think there is enough evidence. He can be proven to have walked around the car but did anyone actually see him do it? Is there any CCTV nearby?

"1. Colleague and his sister saw him do it"

Case closed then. But if they only see him walking round the car then nothing.

It's highly unlikely anything will be proven however peoples shops are always getting firebombed in that street ;)

Nothing will happen. There's no evidence at all that he did anything, and his story makes perfect sense.

Its make perfect sense that he went out to look at the scratches on someone elses car riiiiiiiiiight :confused:

Well all the evidence you have is certainly conclusive - "he was near the car". So yeah, forget what I said - he'll totally go down for it. 10 years at least.

Get CSI to match the paint on his keys to the paint flakes missing from the car.

Does he usually park where she was or something?

Unless there's CCTV overlooking the area, you're **** out of luck. If peoples cars are being done on the regular in that area though, you should write and complain to the council and badger them until they install CCTV.
