*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S5 Thread ***

If people are saying both this and m8 are great could go for either etc... Then why wouldn't you go for the better speakers and materials on the m8? Unless this phone under cuts the m8 you are just buying an uglier phone for no reason? :/
It's all down to personal opinion and preference. It's not just as simple as the m8 "having better speakers and materials."

Why would people go for the s5? a lot of people prefer SAMOLED screens and think they are the best screens in the business. You could also say the s5 has a better camera, is waterproof and dustproof, swappable battery, fingerprint scanner, it is lighter and slimmer. Believe it or not some people even prefer touchwiz or a plastic build! Maybe people want a phone that is compatible with a Galaxy Gear. Also brand name means a lot and some people would always prefer a Samsung phone over an HTC phone, just by brand name alone.

I'm probably sounding like an s5 fanboy right now :p but to be honest I'd probably choose the M8 over the S5 if given the choice between the two, I'm just pointing out that it is not as clear cut as the m8 having better speakers and build quality.

Personally I'll be waiting for either the LG G3 or Note 4

I think it's worth clarifying that Samsung don't market the S5 as Waterproof but as only Water Resistant, having seen one in person I can't really see it withstanding submerges in water and even in the Samsung unpacked event the guy said "don't go swimming with it now"

Just thought I'd clarify that as I can tell you the screen on it is very very bright and crisp.

Chicks dig Samsung phones now. Ever since the S3. Can see why they sell well.

I think Touchwiz is the nastiest piece of garbage to ever hit a mobile device personally. Was only acceptable on the S2.

I did get an S3 but I spent more time angry with it than not.

I was surprised when I used it, I even like the back! :p

It's tough to choose between the S5 and M8, though I'd say the S5 edges it on paper. TouchWiz looks really good now as well. Nobody should buy either of them without trying both.

Still, back to the iPhone for me!

iPhone 5S? bloody hell.
iOS 7 ruined the whole iPhone world for me. Hipstery modern faux drivel. I loathe it.

Not interested in the S5 one bit but that 1 hour water submersion followed by a washing machine wash was damned impressive.

I think iOS is utterly brilliant, iOS 7 has a few questionable design decisions, but it's definitely a lot better than it was.

Clearly it doesn't agree with you! :p

The new TouchWiz looks good though, 10x better than before, really like it.

As for the waterproofing on the S5, I bet loads of people don't put the back on properly and then break it. :o

I was at the point of buying a 32GB Nexus 5 but the battery life of the S5 might sway me. I'm currently on an S3 and the thing barely lasts out a day with minimal usage and it's damn slow these days, even just opening the contacts takes an age.
I saw the S5 in p4u the other day and I was surprised but I really quite like it. My only reluctance is price vs the nexus (£220 more) and of course touchwiz !

S5 survives an hour under water and a run in the washing machine.

Pretty impressive if you ask me.

How many people actually need their phone to be waterproof though? I certainly don't. And I'd rather not have an ugly plastic flap and ugly fat bezels.

If you dropped your phone in a puddle of water though you would be thankful of the feature. Accidents happen. My 2 year old put his mums iPhone in a glass of water. The phone died.

Amen. I don't want my design compromised by something I don't want.

Those people, buy the active model .

I have never ever dropped any phone I have ever owned in water. So you're saying I should have an ugly waterproof phone just in case? Hmmm.

Especially when for two years they've had the tech to do it better with a nano coating that costs a single domestic user $30, IMHO it's because the waterproofing project has been running for years so they want to use those plans and methods before changing to nano.

This is outside Voda HQ today (there's some stuff inside as well but it's dull)

Not entirely sure what it's got to do with an S5 to be honest.

Had a hands on with one of these today, its actually a lot better in person. The back is a big improvement on the shiny plastic used on the S3 and S4.

Have to agree. prefer it over the note 3.
Tested one yesterday and its better than I thought. the back has a nice grip, phone is a good size, it feels perfect in the hand.

i do...

because my phone clips on to my wheelchair so if it rains i don't need to worry about it.

with my s4 i have to put a bag over it when i go out just in case if it rains.
