2014 Chilli Growers Thread

Potted up my germinated scotch bonnets tonight, 8 in total. Also re-potted my Aji Limon seedlings, 9 remaining.

Now lets see what happens!

You're supposed to put the kitchen roll in the container, not the container on the kitchen roll

I'm sure you have it all set up right, and the only problem I can see is that you're too goddam neat and precise for gardening! Throw some muck at it ;)

Hehe, followed your method to the letter.. So I'm blaming you if it doesn't work :p

Almost a frost this morning, wish the weather would hurry up so I can setup my tunnel.

I have 3 plants outside and I can see 2 are alive and acclimatising in the morning sun. The other is the biggest (13" of plant from top of coir compost) is in my back garden and I haven't been there to look yet. People with as many plants as I have can afford to experiment with some of the lower priority strains. I think the worst that will happen is that the plants will be shocked and will result in some stunted growth. Although that would be counteracted by the increased photosynthesis in full sun, sooner than the others.

Location is important, and as I am in the south east of England, it should be warmer than the north east. I will keep you updated on any disasters.

When I first saw the photo I was thinking of a strange cryogenics experiment, and Alien sprang to mind when I saw the shadow. It just has that scifi quality!

It will be fine. Roughly 50% + average germination rates for me this year, and that is including the dudds from the Chilli Pepper Company. As long as you are germinating a few of each you should be fine.

Is the cat getting jealous of your new hobby yet? He/She kind of caused it :)

Yeah as long as I get 2 of each type I'll be happy.

Cats have been strictly banned.. Everything has a lid on one too which helps.

I put all of the my fastest growing plants in the greenhouse last week, no problems at all, all still looking very healthy, I believe its warm enough now, god forbid we get any frost though :)

My "medium" plants as I call them, the ones that are growing slightly slower but at a steady pace are now on the windowsill and looking great too, once they grow another inch or so I will transfer them outside too.
I still have around 8 under my lights, none of them are growing very fast and some look a little sickly so they will stay there for the time being.

I find it amazing how seeds can very so much, all germinated at the same time, many different strains but a number of each strain, some have grown amazingly while others have struggled.

Late to the party this year - just got the seedlings appearing for Ring of Fire and Sweet Chilli.

Going docile this year.. that way the Mrs will think that they're easy to palm off on friends.. next year naga :D (also wanted to check how the conservatory behaves)

everyone is out in the greenhouse today..

debating whether to leave them out tonight, lows of 7c forecast.

repotted the bhut and goronong too.

hedged my bets and planted some seeds in soil as well as the Tupperware method also.

:D

Seems a little quick, everything I read said at least 10 days.

How long should I wait before popping in a soil pot?

The newer the seeds the better. Yours may be very fresh (I have never had any problems with SDCF).

They don't have an infinite amount of inbuilt energy, so you shouldn't leave it too long. I tend to let them grow a little more than in your photo.
