Gaming has taken a dive for me again

Games are offering less & less gameplay & shrinking in size all the time. The quality is terrible on most recent efforts. Graphically they are moving ahead slowly but the gameplay is just not being funded anymore its all about shiny graphics.

Try Batman Arkham Origins Blackgate or Castlevania Mirror of Fate HD both are decent 2.5D old school platformers where gameplay is king you would not get less than 20-25 hours out of both of those if you 100% them for the budget price its good VFM.

Not worse than me. I gamed for the better half of my life and after 1.5 years break (for studying) I was super excited and dashed £1,500 on a new build from scratch. Bought so many games and they are all sitting there waiting for me to play them but I just don't feel like gaming anymore. Barely played any of the game I bough and for two weeks haven't fired any game at all, I just come home boot up my gaming PC and sit there on Youtube! :)

Oh and BTW, Max Payne 3 ABSOLUTELY blowed, it's the worst sequel I have ever played and I'm surprised to see people who actually enjoyed it.

Yep! Exactly what I do! I get home, turn my PC on and just sit in front of it browsing crap...

I have a lovely 50" plasma I can game from that's hooked up to my PC, epic home cinema sound setup... Yet, nothing tickles my fancy.

Weren't you calling Origins shovelware the other week, and now you're stating that Blackgate is good? I know opinions and everything but damn, that really is like stating Kate Upton is a munter only to secretly fancy Jo Brand.

Gaming is like The Wizard of Oz; the more you know about the man behind the curtain, the less impressive it gets. So there's a natural tail-off of interest as you get older. Which is why, at 50, it takes an awful lot to light my candle now.

The Last of Us on PS3 put the nail in the coffin of a lot of games for me. I loved that game/experience *so* much that nothing else can inspire me since; not properly. I dabble, I get bored, I wander off and do something else instead... like reading or Netflix. Or blummin' Bejewelled. I wish I'd never discovered that game. Lightning mode is an addiction for me. :-)

Ultimately all that matters is we're enjoying our downtime; however we spend it. An hour spent staring into space picking our noses is no less well spent than an hour in Borderlands2 or iRacing. You're still an hour closer to death, whichever way you look at it. :->

I've never been able to play just one game which is also to the detriment of completing them. Not since Half-Life or Deus Ex have I been able to complete any single player games without uninstalling then reinstalling months/years down the line.

I think online MP games are really the only viable options for me, SP games just end up being shelved.

Get yourself some gaming buddies and you'll be hooked back into your addiction within no time !

we should all get a big game of something going then and have a laugh through skype/ teamspeak or dare i say it the horrible steam voice at the same time.

would be fun,

Like an AA group for drifting gamers.

I prefer single player and this can sometimes lead to a burnout, probably similar to what you are experiencing.

To tackle this issue my gaming sessions regularly include multiplayer games, preferably PvP. In example, I'm currently enjoying single player in Civ5 and Age of Wonders III and I spice up my gaming sessions with an hour or two of LoL, Poxnora, BF Bad Company 2, Company of Heroes or Heroes III multiplayer. As my time is limited (gaming gets no more than 1-2 hours during work days and 2-4 hours during the weekend), I'll invade Russia with my Panzers tonight on Civ5 and tomorrow I'll snipe some suckers with Lux on LoL.

I enjoy this hobby through balance and moderation (much like everything else!).

Finish Max Payne 3, although people may cry it's not thematically correct compared to the previous games in the series, it advanced the game play so be on of the most enjoyable and fluid shooters from the last console generation.

Anyway... :p

Often when I reach a point in a game where it feels a bit... "urgh", I turn to reviews of the game to remind myself of why the game was good in the first place, and evaluate why I was enjoying the game in the first place. It relights that spark that urges me to go on and finish a game, as I feel like i'm potentially missing out on a great experience that the game has in store. Even just talking about the game on an online forum or image board can make you "hyped" to dive right back into a game.

One game that always hooks me then I lose interest is Skyrim, I had over one hundred ours clocked on the 360, barely touched the main story.

On the PC, I'm not 2 hours from the 100 mark and barely done anything in it.

I constantly want to mod it and never am happy with it. I never just sit down and play it properly like on the 360.

I've been tinkering with the thought of playing it again but then I remember just how much is there and how long it will take me.

Then I remember I have some EPIC games like Blacklist, AC4 etc etc all waiting as well, then I feel kind of bad I've put others on the back burner to play one I should have finished ages ago.

I guess I should just play what I feel like playing and not think about it.

Although tonight will most likely end with me reading a book in the sun with a cider in hand.

:p

for eg fun on voice coms. one of our lot can get wound up very easy :D

so while playing breaking point other night we decided when swimming across a river to take him hostage by gaffer taping his hands together while swimming.

he screamed out whos took me hostage im drowning !!!!!! :D just his eyes and top of head could be seen :p

was funny as we all sat there laughing as he was panicking screaming :p

that kind of fun you cant have on your own. mistakes, fun all makes mp gaming the best option of keeping gaming fun.

single player games just dont hold the fun factor long enough.

gaming is multiplayer.

That is a benefit to console games. Sometimes the lack of graphics options to tweak and benchmarking etc means you just get on with playing the game as presented and aren't worried about resolution, frame rate etc.

+1

Some well made points there.

In my case, I still find that games hold a similar appeal that they did, say nearly ten years ago, but what I have noticed is that I tend to spend more time on one or two games. I do eventually get around to trying out the steam sale purchases, but it can be a long wait...

Been gaming for 30+ years and still enjoy it, ok sometimes you go off it a bit, but I always return :)

borderlands 2 got about 400 hours worth since xmas, and I still intend to go back and play more. Hate to think how many hours I've pumped into path of exile.

Too many games not enough time is my problem :p

This is why I'm re-playing mass effect trilogy with texture mods. I rarely find a decent campaign game to play on, I do recommend revisiting some of the classics like Bioshock, deadspace and F.E.A.R

Mostly all of them have texture mods that basically bring the graphics more in line with what you are used to now days infact Mass effect 1 with 4k texture mods is simply amazing ! totally brought the game back to life for me

IMO Origins is complete dreck & utter garbage shovelware.

Blackgate however is more Arkham City/Asylum in 2.5D than Origins it even reuses the Arkham City music & voicecast for Batman+Catwoman+Penguin.

Blackgate BTW apart from the full name is very little to do with Origins other than its a backstory in new locations using a completely different artstyle & game engine more like Asylum/City in look/tone than anything else.

I blame tomb raider, couldn't put it down until I finished it and now I can't find anything new that grabs me in the same way

I dont game much anymore, same stuff different game is the way I see it after 30 years. :(

Games I do play now and again and show an interest in are..

Kerbal space program
Prison architect
Project Zomboid
Spacebase DF9

Games I will buy and play when finnished

Elite dangerous
Starcitizen

Will probably up same old tripe as usual, but I can live in hope.
