Travelling to these 3 in the summer for 2 weeks at each (including travelling time).
Just wondering what places to visit/what activities should be on my not-to-miss list, and 'if I have time' list.

Booked my flight for mid-June landing in Lima but haven't yet booked anything else. Ideally I don't want to travel too much across the country as I don't have much time in each and I'll be taking flights from country to country.

Thanks.

I was lucky I won a 3 week overlanding trip through Dragoman in to Peru & Ecuador and it was a great trip. Found it fascinating because I enjoy the history of the Inca and also the stunning scenerys.

The only thing I didn't get to do was Machu Picchu, but at least I can save that for another time !

This was my trip....

21 days between Lima and Quito or vice versa...

If you've only got three weeks in which to sample South America, you couldn't do better than visit Ecuador and Peru. These two countries, rich in culture and landscape, are like South America in a nutshell, with terrain that ranges from steaming jungle to the dizzying pinnacles of the High Andes. Beginning in Quito – a city that is a fusion of European and Indian culture – you'll head into the humid lushness of the Amazon for a stay at a jungle camp. Going to sleep to the sounds of the forest is an experience you'll remember forever. From here you'll overland high into the Andes, before descending to the coast and crossing into Peru. There's plenty of time to explore the incredible heritage of the Incas after continuing along the Pacific coast, and the trip ends in Peru's capital city, Lima.

Ecuador

Overnight in colonial Cuenca

Peru

I'm going to go out on a limb and say you do know the area but you're asking about the hidden gems rather than a generic - GO TO A FESTIVAL, GO TO THE SLUMS, GO TOUCH JESUS UP THAT MOUNTAIN generic response. Otherwise it's a bit of a blatant "look how exotic my booked holiday is, and I'm so crazy I don't even know where they are on a map!" attempt.

Not been to Peru but the big hits are obviously Lima, the inca trail and machu pichu with travelling time that will use up most of your two weeks there.

Argentina is tricky as our summer is their winter so a lot if the good stuff like Patagonia is pretty inaccessible. Definitely go to buenos Aires and eat plenty of steak and take a day trip to colunia in Uruguay for the passport stamp.

You have to go to the igazu falls which straddle the Brazil Argentina boarder they are breath taking do the boat ride from the Argentinian side it dunks you under the falls and is cheaper.

Brazil is vast so you will have to travel, again our summer is the wrong time of year really and it's the World Cup this year do prices will probably be silly. You have to go to rio and see the sights allthough it won't be super hot and the beach will be quiet. I would then recommend going to Salvador it's amazing and also the amazon as it is like nowhere on earth.

Any questions yell we did Brazil and Argentina in the summer of 2012 and I've looked at Peru loads of times just never been!
