Hi there,

I would really appreciate some feedback. I am currently in talks to organise a club night in Birmingham and wanted to gauge how people feel about this.

I am looking to set up a 1940's Blitz party style club night. This would include a live swing band/1940's DJ, drinks and cocktails of the era and of course, authentic era dress with props etc around the venue.

Tickets would be priced around £20 for the event and would probably be 8pm - 2am sort of time. As a lover of all things vintage, I think something like this is really lacking in Birmingham.

If you could let me know your thoughts on this, I would be very grateful.

This thread will get closed sadly as it comes across as self promotion and advertising with it being your first post and you're in for a load of abuse from GD as well no doubt :(

BUT please please please organise this and advertise it properly, Brum is a cultural wasteland but every now and again a small oasis of hope erupts (Hot Club De Swing, Swingamajig and Hot Ginger to name a few)

I know of at least 20 people off the top of my head that would go if it was done properly.

I emphasise, please go for it! but get the info out there, to many enterprising events in Brum fail for being advertised in the wrong way to the wring crowd. I don't really need an excuse to get out my two tone brogues but it's nice to have one ;) :p

Like the guy above said, it would be great but certainly needs to be done properly

If we want to experience the 1940's in the West Midlands we just catch the light railway to Tipton ... just saying.

There is that... The Black Country Museum holds random nights but obviously, nothing along the lines of a 'club night'

I'd also know quite a few that would be interested in such a thing as well!

Birmingham does need more culture, I rarely go into town these days as theres just nothing it has to offer. the likes of Snobs isn't the same now I'm not 19 :p

YOU KNOW WHO ELSE DREAMED OF OPENING THEMED NIGHTS IN CLUBS FROM DAYS GONE PAST? A YOUNG BOY WITH AMBITION AND DRIVE AND BRILLIANCE; A BOY WHO CHANGED HISTORY, NOT JUST IN GERMANY BUT ACROSS THE WORLD.

AND THAT BOY'S NAME WAS ADOLF HITLER ALBERT EINSTEIN.

This kind of stuff is catered for in Birmingham already, it's called the Gin Parlour @ The Jekyll and Hyde pub :)

It isn't a very glamorous era.......

Which cloud do you live on  and you haven't been to many 40s nights have you ;)

No it's not and J&H couldn't cope with anything on scale being suggested and it's constantly full of knobs these days :(

It might not be that big but it does cater for those kind of nights, my Mrs goes to them.

And of course it's full of ****'s, I go.

Some people are obviously excepted from my sweeping statement :p but it has become a victim of it's own success, I used to love the place.

Brum on the other hand is really lacking for decent sized vintage evening events and it's not like there are a lack of People who are interested in vintage culture in the city, just a smothering blanket of apathy seems to govern all things in the place.

Yeah agreed it was better before, which is a shame as it seems to be the case with most decent places in Brum, The Wellington was another unknown that the idiots seem to have found now :/
