Even less so now it's moving to a massive new venue, the whole point of Snobs was the fact it was a dirty sweaty little hole in the ground!
Exactly!!

I think a Birmingham/Midlands ocuk meet needs to happen. Real Ale pub crawl ahoooy!

Who said period building?and catering implies food which isn't a norm for events either (unless it's one when they are doing a Marguerite Patten "Ration" Buffet).
The one experience you've had seems to have given you a skewed version of what a typical 40s evening event is like, charity events are a very different breed and mostly created to fleece fat business types of their moola so they look good in front of their peers.
I wouldn't attend a night if it was just going to be the much of the same **** just with people dressed nicely.
If I was looking to do a 40's night I'd want authenticism, an actual 1940's style evening. Waited tables, a cigarette girl. Remember that restaurants weren't subject to rationing so a ration buffet seems odd, although period food is a winner.

I don't know man, maybe. You don't get 40s nights then and the people who attend, it's as much about a night that supports the divergent "vintage" groups and businesses and a place for like minded people to come together, listen to the music, dance, drink and have a laugh away from the hoi polloi that generally litter our night life.
If you want authentic join a re-enactment group as that's their brief, most 40s re-enactors attend the inauthentic 40s nights that you seem to misunderstand so the events certainly aren't looked down on by the re-enactment community.
You seem to miss that the key is they are a fun night out done at a reasonable price for people who are fed up of the same old tosh fed out by 21st century night life.
****edit
That all makes it sound a bit exclusive and insular, it really isn't it's so open and welcoming. The key thing with the a debe is to have fun and the making an effort amplifies that fun.
