Cheques being stolen in the post

I've twice been sent a cheque by a company in the post and it has not been received... I'm going to assume it's been stolen but is there anything they can do with it? (unless they have the same name).

If you're interested it's for about 100quid interview expenses. (and I know they do send the cheques as a mate got one just fine!)

Is there anything I can do? (to stop post going "missing")

(I'm going to ask them to send it bank transfer..)

As long as the company cancel the cheque then there's nothing they can do.

Ask them to send it recorded or special delivery.

No, don't do that. It's probably bad luck, get them to send a third - ensure they're sending them to your address and there's not been an admin **** up.

A client sent me a cheque a year or so ago and it was "intercepted" by someone along the chain, who tried to tip-ex/scratch out the payee name and cash it. Luckily the bank it was paid into caught it and canceled it, letting my client know in the process.

I cannot wait until cheques are no longer a thing.

Very unlikely anyone else would be able to use it.

I pay my local curryhouse by cheque, they don't accept card and I don't always have cash when I fancy an indian.

You can't cash it or bank it unless you have the account card in the same name.

Did you report it to Royal Mail - chances are its not just this but other post as well thats going missing - ie being dumped by the postie

My brother had a cheque for close to 10k stolen a few years ago. The scrote used a fake ID and cashed it at one of those instant cash places in Newcastle.

He was caught on cctv and the shop had to pay my brother the money.

I must admit that surprises me . There is no come back for the shop if the cheque is bounced.

I used to pay the Chinese takeaway delivery guy by cheque when I lived in Bristol.

Of course, they knew where I lived...

Didn't think any stores took cheques these days, simply because they can end up out of pocket if the cheque is cancelled/bounces.
