Am I liable to Pay Council Tax

Ring the council and explain the situation to them. If your name is on the tenancy, you'll have to pay it. You can argue that you should only pay the rate that single people living alone pay though to get a discount due to living with exempt people. When I lived in barnsley I was classed as a full time student (placement year) so didn't have to pay, but my gf at the time was liable for it as she wasnt a student. She got a 25% discount though due to my exemption.

Is this a troll thread? Op still hasn't said whether he's on the lease.

If you are liable to pay the Council Tax and you don't pay it or can not afford to pay it, did you know that you can be put into prison?

If you can't afford it you are bankrupt thus absolved of debts.

OP said he lived with his parents so they should have his name as living at his parents house problem solved. ALso why couldnt your "gf"sort it out herself ? Seems odd, did you marry her on a website?

OP said:
*EDIT* Thanks for all the feedback, guys. No my name was never on the tenancy nor on the contract. I did live there for a few days here and there. Only my gf supplied the council tax certification from her university to prove she's a full time student, the other two I am not sure.

The LA probably gave your name to them then, for what reason?
If your name is nowhere to be seen then they get nowt from you, yer missus has proven she was a full time student, they get nowt from her. the other 2 need to sort it out.

Why is this even a question?
You've had a summons to pay council tax on a property you've never owned or rented. Obviously a mistake but why has it got as far a court summons?
Something is not right here...

Ask your gf (and her mates) why they clearly repeatedly binned reminder letters, some of which would have been addressed to you, for payment of council tax. There's no 'proceed directly to court' option for this scenario.
