Just purchased an i7 920 from the MM, I'm now on the lookout for a good motherboard to pair it and the 6Gb XMS3 I've also bought, up with. Budget is approx £50-£60. Hoping I can score something pre-owned for that sort of price.

I realise that 1366 is an old socket but I'm quite 'out of the loop' as far as the kit goes and what motherboards are good/bad. Thinking maybe something along the lines of an Asus P6T or a Rampage? I don't really know - hence the reason for this thread!

So, recommend me a mobo for an i7 920 please. Ta!! :)

Pop a wanted thread up in the MM to see if people have any spare boards.

Asus P6T was a good board, had my i7-950 on some good clocks with it.
I doubt people would part with a asus rampage iii extreme for under £100, but the board was incredible so was the Rampage iii Gene. You might be able to find a Rampage ii X58 for that price.

Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5 / GA-X58A-UD7 / G1.Sniper are also very decent.

i7-920s will require a decent heatsink/cooling if you are going to OC btw.

Sounds like a plan. I'll chuck up a thread there just now. Thanks for the recommendations, will have a Google on those and see what sort of reviews from way back when I can dig up. :)

A good x58 mobo is getting scarce now, best of luck getting one.

It certainly seems that way. Even on the 'Bay they are few and far between. And at crazy prices!:(

The UD3 version of the Gigabyte board - how does it perform? I briefly read one review which praised it highly.

Have a look on the bay, plenty of x58 boards on there, both new and used, I'd recommend the Gigabyte Sniper x58, amazing board, had it for 4 years myself and never let me down, comes with tonnes of features like the killer network chip with 2gb of DDR2 dedicated RAM built on, and the same for the creative audio.

There's a few on the bay. But most go for ridiculous prices! I've just sat and watched an Gigabyte X58 UD3R go for a few pence under £80. And it wasn't boxed, came bare on its own and was a Rev 1 rather than a Rev 2. There are also lots of X58 boards on there which are being advertised as having 'bent pins' in the socket or other types of damage. So while there appear to be a reasonable selection of X58's on the bay at the mo', when you narrow down the naff ones and discount them out of the equation it leaves you with very few half decent ones which ultimately sell for @£30 more than they are worth in real terms.

I think I'll hang fire and wait to see what comes up here. ;)

Rampage 2 extreme is the best overclocker on the first batch of x58 architecture, managed to get a 930 on water 4.4 ht-on nice and stable also.

I had a few x58 boards i had the P6T, P6x58D-E and an MSI.
None of them i could push past 4.2 and they failed much earlier on and were harder to tweak successfully than the Rampage.
These were all tested with the same cpu and ram.

They sell for about £100 on Ebay amd are quite rare, even damaged ones get sold. I seen one around xmas go for about £230, seller was in Korea and it was brand new in the box.

Folks, apologies for the slight thread bump, what are the opinions on the MSI X58 Pro-E?

Finding getting hold of an X58 mobo to be like finding the proverbial needle in a haystack. :(
