I am really out of touch with games, haven't been keeping up for years really, but now I come across games like these, seems to be a 80/90s revival of some sorts.

I watched the 'indie movie', hence why I came across these games, not really sure what to make of them, only watched trailers and gameplay videos, limbo looks quite interesting though. I could see myself hacking though a game like that.

So what do you think, do you play these games, is this a trend just now for 2D 80s style platformers, or do I just not have a clue?

All good games indeed. And there's plenty more. I think the revival is mostly due to a backlash against the number of gameplay-lite interactive movie games we get these days.

I'm presuming you are refering to GOG as the website "Good Old Games", correct?

If so, you can pick up some actual old games that will run on modern systems with problems, not just revivals.

But yes, indie games have been one of the biggest trends in gaming over the last couple of years, especially on the PC platform. The offer up some unique experience which big title AAA companies just can't afford to gamble on. There are certainly some standout, my favorites being:
Super Meat Boy
The Binding of Isaac
Hotline Miami
Spelunky

...and many others, there are just too many to list, which is a common problem currently. Many people have jumped on the indie game bandwagon, and have decided to create many a "retro pixel art nostalgic" games, which at first were cool in their own right, but now it can just look like an lazy effort money grab.

So basically, if you're looking for something a bit different, than they may be for you, but try to look into the good ones as there are a lot out there recently. Regularly check the site "humble indie bundle", as they usually bundle together some very good indie games for a low price.

Other than what you and Winky have mentioned: Braid, Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet, Lone Survivor, Jamestown, Mark of the Ninja, Dust: An Elysian Tale, Capsized, Faster Than Light (FTL), and Papers Please are in my library.

//edit. Nearly forgot Bastion, my fave!, and Sine Mora, an insanely pretty and fun side scrolling shooter:

There's shed loads more :)

Actually meant World of Goo, not God of Goo. I agree with the money grab statement. It's truely back to the 80s Assembly coded Z80 games, maybe takes a couple more years to make, but same idea a one or two man team. Why not though.. Interesting .
