HTC One M8 vs Sony Xperia Z2?

Very Similar, tbh will boil down to how you like to use the phones as their GUI is slightly different.

Using the HTC One M8 and I think it's a fantastic handset.

The disadvantage to the Z2 are the very sharp corners, which makes it feel bigger in the pocket - the M8 is much friendlier in this respect. Better speakers too, even though the Z2 now has front-facing speakers.

The camera in the M8 is fine. :)

Except the M8 has a decent camera, says everyone but you.

Everyone seems surprised it can take photos judging from all the damning reviews. :D The bokeh effect is still cringe worthy though... (I'd tape over the M7 FFC permanently :p)

DxOmark rate the Z2 higher than the 808/1020 pureview and iPhone 5S, although I'd wait for other reviews to see how far it's progressed from the Z1 series.

Yeah the bokeh is hit/miss, but you don't have to use it and it could be improved in the future.

The camera is above average for a phone, not dire at all.

I've been impressed with the detail for the 50MP shots from the OPPO. Stunning detail when cropped -

the oppo7 is not really 50mp cammera but rather its a sony 3-megapixel Sony IMX214 CMOS sensor, it performs a software trick to produce 50mp pictures.

Or just put in a higher megapixel sensor? If they put in an 8 megapixel sensor, with UltraPixel, it would probably be the best camera on a smartphone.

Except that would need a sensor twice the size of the current one - if it was so easy they would have done it by now.

Still, it's the same camera module the M7. I don't take photos much with my HO M7, but when I do, I do notice the lack of quality a higher MP camera usually brings. My brother recently got the Z1 Compact, and the camera quality is much better. Too bad the Sony camera UI is so... bloated.

Both phones are very evenly matched, so give them both a go OP, and see which one feels more right for you.

The depth map generated for the blur filter is low resolution (VGA?) The effect on the M8 will never be improved... :(

Maybe HTC should implement this feature to get round the 4MP issue.

Yep, a secondary 4MP ultrapixel camera would generate high res pics like the OPPO (8-16MP) but with the added benefit of being instant, no motion blur, a depth map, greater dynamic range etc.
Fingers crossed for the M9 but I don't think HTC have the budget to push the boat out on camera parts though.

The OPPO 7 looks quite good.
